You can’t do partial cap, normally the hole tip will be covered. I had it done in China. Not aware of any western shop offering this.

Guess that means the pot will have to go into a temporary retirement until I can come across someone who can do that kind of work. A bit disappointed that there isn't really any other way to fix it but I guess I shouldn't have expected a perfect fix for a break like this anyway.


All I can do for now is make sure this kind of thing doesn't become a habit I suppose

@AozoraE I would try and see if one your local jewelleries is up to the task! A lot of those who offer this service in China do actually come from that trade.

i cracked another gaiwan. liberal application of epoxy on the exterior all around the crack is a great way to get more life out of this thing:

I don't know if this is a "repair", but I replaced the wrong and broken lid of this fake teapot with a better matching one from a F1 tea tasting set. I used sand paper to make the lid a bit smaller. It does not fit perfectly in every position (because the opening is not round)... but it's good enough. It probably wasn't worth the effort in your opinion... but I still like this one.

Thank you, I was lucky enough to have a spare lid. I trust OCTO with his evaluation, but if he's wrong (I guess there's always a tiny chance ) this teapot is from 1958. Someone on Facebook helped me with the translation of the inscription on the side.

Not sure if we can count this as a repair per se, more like a lost and found…

Waited two years for this replacement lid. Am just adding a reef knot to handle and lid to make sure I don’t burn my fingers, haha!

Too shiny now, but I count on decay and harsh weather to give it a nice dark grey patina with time.

P.S. this is a rather large 200ml, Hongni ROC pot. Good for guests coming over.

Thanks! It’s a friend of mine who has a jewellery business.

I opted to design a different style of lid, not what would have been the original style for this shape. Also less silver this way… cost is a factor after all. Glad I did not miscalculate the measurements for it. That would have been a bad surprise if it didn’t fit.

The pot looks very handsome with or without the lid

Nice replacement lid. Now you just need to drop this pot on the ground so that you can get a few matching staples.
