Could anybody tell me the type of clay if I show you a close up shot once the teapot has arrived?
Looks more like Duanni to me. Hows the surface texture? And the sound? But needs more pictures, cuz Lüni is difficult to take picture of.Mark-S wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 2:17 pmFinally, I got a Duanni (or Lüni) F1 teapot. At least I am pretty sure it's F1. Probably from the mid 80s? There are not many for sale in Europe. Yeah, I know that's not perfect... I am still happy I found itIt cost me a little more than $100. A reasonable price in my opinion and not much of a gamble.

Agreed! Color looks more like duanni. I owned a M&L lüni pot, it’s well made, but I don’t have enough knowledge on lüni to tell the quality of the clayYouzi wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 2:35 pmLooks more like Duanni to me. You know for a bit more than $100 you could've also got Lüni or Duanni from M&L too?
I'll update you on the teapot once it arrives. Maybe, I could have gotten a better teapot from MudandLeaves, but I am not a big fan of modern teapots. I like to use vintage stuff.

Does M&L sell custom pots? And why would I prefer M&L over Yinchen?
I think most Chinese porcelain that’s consider antiquity has potential lead issue. For a tea plate, it shouldn’t matter much unless one licks the tea plate lol. If you are that sensitive, maybe a zisha plate from F1 will do. I know EOT has them, but I haven’t seen them on saleMark-S wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 4:12 pmDailyTX
Thanks for the hint. The plate they posted on Instagram is very beautiful (https://essenceoftea.com/collections/ne ... hi-plate-i). I have got a tea boat / plate / tea tray on my wishlist, but it should not contain lead. Unfortunately, even the pewter tea trays EoT sells contain lead.At least I have read that somewhere.
Overglaze enamel meaning those colorful glaze over porcelain that typically found in qing and roc?
Over glaze is any glaze that you can feel by touch and see that it is applied over the shiny transparent glaze afterwards.
+1
I see, with blue and white, the glaze is fired with the clay at the same time, so less likely to leak unless chip or firing imperfection.m. wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 7:43 pm+1
Exactly. Includes also the orange/coral red pieces of late qing, i think. Any glaze applied after the porcelain piece was fully fired -- they are usually refired at a lower temperature where the lead serves as a fluxing agent.
