I'm just getting into tea and bought a 24 oz Zero Japan tea pot, thinking this could useful for myself (single cup) or for a couple of cups with my wife. However the infuser doesn't go down far enough for 1 cup. It seems silly to purchase a second pot for 1 cup only. So, I can return the Zero Japan but what to replace it with? Any suggestions? 15oz is too small. Can I source another, deeper infuser? I really like the Zero Japan though.

While I'm asking, any suggestions for tea warmer for a pot like the Zero Japan? Are the ones with tea candles effective and safe for that type of pot?

Thanks!

Well, you're asking a group of people that have many many teapots and teacups each... Sitting in my cabinet right now I think I have 7 teapots, 2 gaiwans, 1 soon to be 2 gong dao bei, and 12 dedicated teacups..? To me and many others here, having multiple teapots of different size to suit different purposes just makes plain good sense.

I don't know anything about that teapot of yours. But I'll try to help anyway. Getting a second smaller teapot would probably be the best option, as having a half full teapot will cool off faster and affect the steeping parameters and whatnot. Barring that, you can just steep it loose in the pot with your appropriate amount of water, and either deal with a few stray leaves in your cup or strain it or buy a spout strainer insert. Buying a second strainer makes less sense to me than just buying a second teapot. Another option is to just drink 2 cups of tea when you are by yourself!

I would personally not risk any of my teapots over a tea candle, but mine are totally different from yours. Best bet is to contact the company and ask (my recommendation is to drink faster).

I don't like pots that have an infuser insert because they cause problems, may not let the leaves expand enough, and limit the circulation of the water through the leaves... I would get another pot that does not have an infuser to limit it. A filter at the spout is much more efficient, or you could try a gaiwan or shiboridashi that uses technique and simplicity to to do without a filter altogether. Lately I find myself using my shiboridashi most often because of the ease of cleaning them.
