Yixing

Picked up an interesting Zhuni pot, not 100% sure of its age.
Do you think its from the 80s, 90s or totally modern?
I'd be great if I knew what it says at the bottom
It has a bit of lid play and looks handmade from the tool marks inside.
The mica dots look a bit different from the modern zhuni pots I own.

In my view this is a modern zhuni teapot (post 2000s). The bottom is a poem about the moon, but I can't make out all the characters...

"明月一天凉似水"

Seems to have been used frequently by
陈煌图 and also 孟臣。

This one's supposedly made by a 严祥, if I'm getting the leftmost characters right ("严祥制")

Don’t take it too hard. Modern zhuni is under appreciated. It’s a great clay with predictable characteristics. It isn’t as variable as lao zhuni, mostly because the firing is more uniform. There’s also much less concern of harmful additives with modern zhuni compared to other modern clays Yixing clays.

It’s a lovely teapot and should perform quite well.

Unless the source is respected, never believe any age statement. This clay’s shine looks a bit odd for Zhuni.

My understanding is that these larger teapots were exported north and were used for hongcha. What kind of teas do you make in yours, @OCTO?

I brew and slow boil Aged PuErh, Aged LiuAn and Aged LiuBao. Sometimes a combo of my quirky blends.... hahahaha..... Their heat retention is pretty amazing. Hence a good candidate to bring out the aged flavours in these old teas. Coincidentally, I seasoned and prepared the pot with HongCha for about a week before moving over to the other teas.

Very nice! I have also been enjoying using larger pots more and more for aged tea. They bring out more depth of flavor. This is a twin of your pots

Lovely twins, do you put one of them over fire? Can you share more detail on the process of boiling tea, the OCTO style haha.
