Every seal that was used yesterday can be used today or tomorrow but that doesn’t really answer the question of when F1 ceased using it.Bok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 6:33 pmAs far as I know, some are being used until now : ).m. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 11:43 amBok steanze Thank you for sharing!
Would it be correct to say that the 4 character Zhongguo seal first appeared only sometime during the Cultural revolution (after 1966)?
Is there any information as when did the different 6 character mengchen seals of 60s (and earlier) ended?

@Chadrinkincat of course…
If I’m not mistaken some 6-character seal were used again in the 80s, but no idea when they stopped altogether to use them officially.

I have a 6 character mengchen chop with guava shape from green label. I am not sure from 1982-1985. Most of the info I found indicate that after 1985, artists started using their own name or surname on their chop.

Yup, a project for another day. BTW, @Bok, do you know if black star clay existed before 1980s? I read it was produced to satisfy the Taiwanese market around 1982. Other source I read said late 70s already have black start clay, and the color looks like qingshuini with black dots. Any thoughts?
My very limited contribution to the topic: my 60s hong ni biandeng and my (80s, I assume) green label guava (qingshuini, I assume).
The green label one looks pretty sloppy in comparison to the 60s one.
I thought I read somewhere around here that six-character green label seals were 80s, and others could be 70s, but I may well be wrong.
But I also assume that the original question was really about whether there was a break in the usage of the six-character seal from the 60s, and if so, when, as to which I know nothing, and as to which look forward to learning from others here.

@Bok
I wasn’t paying much attention until I encountered a few black star clay teapots
With different color tone. I guess this question will be tuck away until I find more info later.
Yes, that would be correct. Seals similar to the 6 character nan meng chen and hui meng chen are already seen in ROC, then in F1 they are used until about 1966, afterwards 4 char ZGYX are used until about the end of the 70s, in the early 80s you start seeing some 6 character hui meng chen seals again (but no nan meng chen seals), these 80s hui meng chen seals look different from the ones in the 1960s..m. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 11:43 amBok steanze Thank you for sharing!

To my knowledge black star clay is only produced since 1982. I have never seen black star clay earlier than that... Does the other source have some pictures of 1970s black star clay teapots? I would be very curious to see them.DailyTX wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 12:29 amYup, a project for another day. BTW, Bok, do you know if black star clay existed before 1980s?
