Yixing
The body could be authentic. The lid is not original, in my opinion it's not worth it to send it for kintsugi. As far as I can see, it is not a neiziwaihong, it is a more reddish version of qingshuini.Mark-S wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 7:55 amThat's good to know. Thank youChadrinkincat wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 10:17 amYea I wouldn’t use his pots or tea as reference. He has a mixed reputation on both.![]()

I'm wondering if this lid is the original. What do you think? Unfortunately, I could not find an identical pot on Facebook... but I think that this is a F1 pot. Would it be worth to send the lid in for professional repair with kintsugi?
Sorry for the blurry pics. I've got no tripod here.
I did a quick research on the lid and found these two pots. The lids are not the same but the style seems to be common. I am curious what pots you had in mind. The lid looks pretty old.Bok wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 8:04 amYou guessed right, not the original lid. Usually that kind of lid goes on sort of tallish pots, let me see if I can find a reference... the body is of a Han Gentleman pot. OCTO will know more if this is an authentic one. With that stamp it should actually be pre-factory if I am not mistaken, ROC maybe, or fake? Can not say for sure, not my expertise this shape...
As for the age of the pot... ROC would be nice. My first thought was that this could be a 60's pot, but I did not want to annoy you with another wrong assumption.

I am not so sure however, what I'll do with the lid. Maybe the lid of my 70's "Han Gentleman" pot could fit... but it's another color.
It's not Neiziwaihhong. It only looks that way, because I took the pics in different lighting conditions.
I am sure because the clay looks nearly the same on the inside / outside. In addition, I own a Neiziwaihhong pot now (viewtopic.php?p=35727#p35727) so I got a good reference.

@Mark-S
I don’t think this is an F1 pot. The interior has rough finished areas that seems more consistent w/ pre factory. It looks similar to interior base on my ROC pots.
As seen here on 40’s pot
Hard to be certain but the interior line on this pot looks much smoother. Supposedly 60-70’s http://zishaartgallery.com/product/小汉君壶-za0048/

Two comparison photos with two common F1 pots and another picture of the inside (with flash).

aha, so you got that one @Mark-S. you seem to be buying up all the pots I come across and pass on or don't grab quickly because I am unsure of them
the clay on this one looked nice, but I was also confused by the lid and thought it was swapped. somehow I do like it though - makes it look like some sort of angular tomato

Either of you buy this pot? My first thought was ROC but wasn’t entirely certain so I put in lower offer. Needless to say someone else bought it 5min later.wave_code wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 10:53 amaha, so you got that one Mark-S. you seem to be buying up all the pots I come across and pass on or don't grab quickly because I am unsure of themthe clay on this one looked nice, but I was also confused by the lid and thought it was swapped. somehow I do like it though - makes it look like some sort of angular tomato

:D This pot was on eBay for a long time and at first I took a pass on it... but after a couple of month I came across it once again and could not resist after the seller offered me a big discount on shipping... I don't regret buying it. In my opinion, this was a pretty good purchase. I paid a bit more than 100 bucks for it including shipping.wave_code wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 10:53 amaha, so you got that one Mark-S. you seem to be buying up all the pots I come across and pass on or don't grab quickly because I am unsure of them :lol: the clay on this one looked nice, but I was also confused by the lid and thought it was swapped. somehow I do like it though - makes it look like some sort of angular tomato
@Chadrinkincat
Nope, I didn't. Since the last mistake I only buy the pots I'm pretty sure about and I've never seen a set like this. In addition, I don't like the strainer.
wasn't me, though it looks nice! I do keep an eye on US stuff sometimes too, but the shipping is sometimes half or as much as the pot so I mostly keep an eye on EU auctions. UK shipping is just as bad sometimes now too. in this case swapping the lid out would be easy, but I'm always wary of repairs since I figure most pots that get broken and fixed in Europe were probably done with some nasty epoxy by someone who doesn't know better.
@Mark-S sounds like a nice deal then! we get pretty slim pickings for good used pots here it seems.

Once again not sure if this is the thread for it, but does anybody know what the story is behind black Yixing? Seeing one of Bok's very nice pots (which appears to be black) got me thinking about this. My only experience with black Yixing has been pots produced for the French tea company Mariage Frères -- in their case, they did this back when Yixing was less expensive as (I suspect) an homage to Wedgwood basaltware, but I don't know much about it otherwise. Checking my few Yixing books has not been helpful here. Does anyone have any ideas about it?
