This one? Hahahaha... 😛😛😛
I have already seen this style a couple of times on eBay. Personally, I like the F1 version better, but it's still a nice pot.

I wonder how much these teapots cost in your country. This green label F1 (?) teapot behind the spout is cool by the way. :) It looks more natural in comparison to the 3 friends pot. Very hard to find in the West.

Yes. Price wise is about US$1000 to US$1200 depending on the artist who made it and also the details in the workmanship. There weren't many variants of clay back then. They appear the same but there are some inconsistencies that doesn't coincide with teapots of that era. The second, darker clay one is a clever replica of the original ROC pot.

My take, I won't buy the first pot unless I get to hold the pot in my hands and assess them personally or through an experienced buyer whom I trust. Will definitely skip the second one if I'm looking for an authentic ROC pot.

Cheers!

Good to know what you are thinking of these pots. I wondered about the clay's color, but I did not know it's a replica. I also wondered how the previous owner got these two big holes in it... but that obviously stays a mystery

@Bok

Yeah, that's why I said "similar style" and not "the same teapot". Since I am not that interested in the style I did not want to spend hours comparing it. :D

What is the likelihood of somebody forging a run of a mill ROC pot and selling it heavily chipped in France for 100euro. Or are we talking about a ROC replica of a ROC pot destined for export market?

Now you're learning.... don't let the learning stop. Keep asking questions.... personally, I've asked many questions when I started off my journey into the Yixing Abyss..... hahahaha...

Here's my take on the second pot.

1. The clay colour is not consistent what any authentic ROC clay found back then. We are referring to Early ROC. The nearest colour you can find is from the GongJu Era of pots. Found specifically in the Kingdom of Siam... hehehe...

2. The method used to round off the tip of the sound is more consistent to a modern teapot snout.

3. The squirrel on the top of the lid resembles more of a flying fox than a squirrel.

4. The way the vines and leaves are done looks like it came from a cast or mould. It's 100% handmade for these kinds of pot.

5. The curves and bends on the handle is incorrect according to pots of that era.

The reason why I said the pot was a clever replica is the potter for the snout bends almost perfect. This is the most often ignored section among replicas.

So, based on these 5 observations alone, I will abstain from making a BUY decision if I'm looking for an authentic ROC pot.

Cheers!!

It's not an online shop. It's a physical retail shop in Taiwan and doubles off as a vegetarian restaurant. I have met the owner and he his pots are among the very few retails in Taiwan that sells 100% authentic pots. Prices are on the premium side.

Do you know why the color of this teapot's clay is not consistent? Different clay? Additives? I don't think it's a patina... :D

My teapot of the same shape has a very uniform color, and I have not seen this on any other pots.

This teapot is very dusty. You have pointed out correctly that it is definitely not patina. It could be a stain left behind by an oily hand or something unknown. This style of mixing clay for different parts of the pot originated in the 1960s. My Papaya pots from my earlier posts are also from the same era. Not able to give a proper and educated guess based just on 1 photograph. But with limited info from just this photo, I am able to see the clay, pot proportions and workmanship is very inconsistent. Something I place very high importance to. Hence, I will give this pot a skip. Be it a poorly made 1960s pot or a mediocre modern replica, it's still a no go for me. Prefer to collect yixing gems rather than a stockpile of clay pots.... 🤣🤣🤣
