Do you have a proper profile shot of it? Shine could be the patina of a well used pot. If it’s wax it should come off when you boil it a bit with hot water. Looks like it’s a 60s hongni, pending a proper side view profile shot. The lid knob looks a bit odd from this angle...

Hello I have this teapot which I was told at least 25 years old. The name chan or Chen appears under the lid. Please help in identifying this beautiful teapot. I was told many experts on this forum, hope this will help.

Thanks, it came in the wooden box lookimg rather old, with cotton padding inside.

It could be 60s. Not 100% sure, I would clean it properly, sodium bicarbonate and boil some more with hot water and then see what comes out underneath.
It’s a bit too equally shiny for wax, at least in these pictures. Normally the wax after such a long time becomes a bit uneven shiny.

So i have performed usual cleaning, rubbed with soda, cooked 30 mins and i think that shine recessed,disappeared.
I took photo comparing it to modern replica ( per early teapots II seniors). Might be a good idea to post it there as well..

@lopin yeah I’d probably post it there to be sure... still is quite shiny, But maybe it’s the pictures.
The thing which makes me pause is the handle, which does seem a bit odd. But other details point to 60s for me. So better ask the seniors. Don’t forget to include a good close up of the seal.

This new 60’s pot looks similar to a number of fake pots I’ve seen listed by Japanese vendors on yahoo JP and eBay.
Also it could just be the way you photographed these but it looks like lid skirt on both those pots are very round which seems less common for the era.

I don’t think this pot is 25 year old. The clay seems more modern like 2000 onward. The stamp on the bottom is upside down. Can you tell us more about filter inside the pot? Take a picture of the full pot, and a full picture of the bottom of the pot? Thanks
