FS: Taiwan woodfired vs porcelain teapot set
So, going through my stash of unused items, I came up with this – I think interesting and educational – offer:
Two teapots of very similar shape, yet in totally different materials, woodfired clay and porcelain. Both materials I have in the past found to be very good for high mountain oolong, yet still with different outcomes. So this set might offer a good setup for comparing different teas in different materials.
The volumes are not identical, yet not extremely far from each other to be too far apart. What I found matters a lot is the shape of a teapot and how thin/thick the walls are.
These two are both nearly identically thin walled.
TW pot: 150ml
Porcelain: closer to 190ml (my measuring glass is not super accurate)
Porcelain pot is in perfect condition, almost as new, used it a couple of times only.
TW pot has a replacement lid, which wiggles a bit sideways, yet is absolutely airtight, if water sealed. The lid's skirt inside is not perfectly round, due to some firing effect in the kiln. Does not affect performance. Some minor chips, as shown on images.
The set of two:

Is the wood-fired glazed inside?
It does not need to be. The prolonged firing at high temperature seals the surface as if it were glazed, which is the special thing about this firing method. This one has a few sprinkles of glaze on the outside for optical effects, which is the style of the potter.
This woodfired clay together with the thinness, makes it a pretty good pot for a variety of teas from the greener to the dark roasted. I like to use it for Gaoshan, but have another which I exclusively used for more oxidised and roasted teas. The potter itself favours Tieguanyin.
Shape is also somehow in between flat and round, so it works for both rolled and unfurled leaf kind of teas.

So, now I understand how well these two pots should work together for the comparisons. Excellent!
