Korean Teaware Showcase
Repost from what I just wrote in the porcelain thread:
My latest and first Korean acquisition from Kwon Hyuck Moon via Gallery Daunjae.
A pleasure to look at and use, just the right amount of imperfections and functionality!
I am going to watch the Korean pottery scene more closely from now on...

my eye is really drawn to the faceted lid knob
Beautiful pieces in this thread, have been looking at Seong-Il pots for a while, does anyone know how one would procure one nowadays, it seems the cone9 website hasnt been updated for about a year, tea urchin sells a couple but they're not exactly for me.
Sometimes Gallery Daunjae has some. And a few others to pick from.
Ordering was easy and painless, good and fast service.
Also seems to me that cross inspiration is quite heavy among Korean potters, so a lot of them use similar styles and methods, so if you are not hung up on Seong Il...
Thats true, been checking sporadically ever since you posted about yours, beautiful by the way, still havent found 'the one' though there are a few I'm quite fond of.Bok wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:25 am

I like the look of those. Gaiwan looks easy to use also.
So here are the pics of the Hong Seong-il pot I got from the fundraiser, debunix's photos are much better but I thought I'd share anyway
was surprised how thick the walls are, beautiful little pot
Doesn't show up on camera but some of the dark specks have a sort of oily irridescence to them, really stunning!

Yay! I saw yesterday that USPS finally showed it as delivered. Customs had time to brew gallons of tea with it before they released it to you. I hope it livens up your tea sessions! It has mostly been 'fed' with roasty oolongs....and it holds in heat nicely for infusing those teas.
I have a Seong-il kyusu from that period which I’ve neglected in favor of newer smaller pots. I tried it today with hk style roasted stems. That’s a less intense tea than regular yancha so I can drink more of it. This pot is an excellent clay and size for yancha.
Notice how the spirals rise up from the base.

I've been AWOL for a while, but have had the opportunity to indulge in my love of tea on my new night shift job ... so thought I could take a picture or two to share. Pot and cup are both by Hong Seong-il, porcelain with shino glaze. I have several of his pieces, and love his older work.
