Hi I am Mitten5. I am from the tea reddit and the #tea chat. I rate rarely on Steepster and posted infrequently on the old teachat boards.
How long have you been drinking tea?
About fifteen years. I was looking for a substitute for coffee during college because it made me feel uneasy. I found that I enjoyed tea much more, and have never looked back!
What kind of tea do you drink?
I drink all teas. I started out drinking all Japanese green. That paved the way to chinese green and taiwanese oolongs and gaoshan. Eventually I found yancha/wuyi oolongs and that is what I prefer to drink now. For the past 5 years or so I have discovered aged puerh and heicha and have consumed a lot of that, but at the end of the day I still mostly drink oolongs.
How do you prepare your tea?
Pragmatic to my situation: gongfu if I can sit, grandpa style if that is what is available. I also coldbrew sometimes to satisfy my southern background. I work in several different places and rarely have control over where I work, and often don't have access to boiling water. So often I am forced to try an old tea in a new style!
What tea knowledge are you interested in exploring right now?
Discussion of harvest, quality, and mostly consumption and enjoyment purposes. I do not believe that tea confers health benefits, and I do not buy tea for investment or storage purposes.

Hello everyone, my name is Niall

How long have you been drinking tea?
I started 7 or 8 years ago, first of all just blindly drinking bags of green tea as well as flavoured and herbal teas for the "health benefits". Then i delved into the world of loose tea and was absolutley enchanted by all the different types available. It was suddenly a voyage of exploration to try as much as I could. Puerh, Oolong, White tea ect.

What kind of tea do you drink?
I stocked up on a lot of ripe puerh and roasted oolongs throughout the winter and enjoyed the fuller bodied, bolder tasting teas. Now with the weather being alot warmer I'm drinking alot more green tea and greener oolongs.

How do you prepare your tea?
I usually brew with gaiwans and have a real fondness for tiny Xishi pots. Sometimes I will use a larger pot or just drink grandpa style if my attention is focused on work. I'm loving bi lo chun at the moment for grandpa style as you get the little show as the leaves dance and open and then without fail they all sink to the bottom making it easy to sip.

What tea knowledge are you interested in exploring right now?
I am interested in the processing and storage of teas. Wanting to learn more about the chemicals present in tea and the way they interact with out body and senses. Also wanting to learn more about the cultural aspects and history of tea.

What factors lead you to delve into the world of tea, and what is keeping you there?
Mostly the element of exploration. When i started it really was a totally mystery that none of my friends or family had explored. Like i remember seeing 25 year old puerh tea. I couldn't pronounce it or understand why anyone woukd drink a 25 year old tea. It was such a thrill to wait a few weeks to have these mysterious unbranded bags and boxes arriving at my door from china. Full of experiments and experiences for weeks. If variety is the spice of life then I think tea is something everyone should explore and almost everyone will find something they love.

What is your location?
I live in Manchester in the United Kingdom

Did you change your diet at all during this transition?

I think similar to tea, my diet and food choices vary throughout the seasons based on their affect e.g the ability to cool or warm, quench or dry, stimulate or relax. Although i do not actively change my diet for any specific reasons. There are always anomolous days where it might be hot but I get a big craving for ripe puerh. It could be causative that the seasons effect our preferences although there are probably many other factors at play. Why do you ask is this something you had to do yourself in regards to changing diet ?

Hello there! My name is Alejandro, aka Ouronok. I'm a computer guy that enjoys drinking tea in its freetime and I'll answer the questions to let you know me a bit better.

How long have you been drinking tea?

I've been drinking tea for like 3 years, started a couple times a week and a lot during exams with local stuff but this year I've been drinking and exploring more teas seriously, like I've had a change of mentality and adapted tea as my main hobby.

What kind of tea do you drink?

What I drink the most now is sheng puerh and in less quantity taiwanese oolongs but I've ran out of these and I keep buying more pu to drink and store so that's why it's my main choice because I really like both kinds of storage.

How do you prepare your tea?

Now I'm currently using a 50 ml gaiwan to do the gongfucha and currently waiting for a second one in order to perform side by side tastings.

What tea knowledge are you interested in exploring right now?

Right now I'm interested into expanding my knowledge about puerh, his storage and differences between the cakes.

What factors lead you to delve into the world of tea, and what is keeping you there?

My passion for food is what drives me into tasting different teas and enjoying them and sharing experiences with my friends is what it's keeping me there.

What is your location?

Currently I'm living in Spain

Hi everybody. I've been reading threads on this forum for a while, and I'm happy to finally join it!

How long have you been drinking tea?
Tea has always been in my life, but I have only discovered the world of chinese and taiwanese teas a couple years ago.

What kind of tea do you drink?
Mostly puer and oolong, but I do like a Yunnan hong or a japanese green from time to time. I'm also getting interested in non-puer heichas!

What tea knowledge are you interested in exploring right now?
Lately, I have read a lot specifically about yixing and other kinds of clay, but I always like to hear other tea geeks' opinions, since in the West this hobby often remains quite solitary.

What factors lead you to delve into the world of tea, and what is keeping you there?
It began with a trip to China, and the incredible depth of the tea culture kept it alive since.

What is your location?
Canada,
Chris

Hi all, my name is Chris. I posted on TC a few times way back in the day but never too much. Happened to find this forum earlier this weekend— now I know why TC has been so quiet for so long.

How long have you been drinking tea?

Although I mostly(ish) grew up in the Pacific Northwest, my family is from the Deep South, so I grew up with sweet sun tea but never cared much for it. Studying in Tokyo in the early 2000s, I was introduced to “real”, if mass-market, Japanese teas and realized there was much more to tea than I had known. I stumbled onto Chinese and Taiwanese tea around 2007 or 2008. For me, this cemented a serious interest in tea that I’ve tried to expand on since then.

What kind of tea do you drink?

Most often oolongs, but I also dabble in Pu Erh, heicha, Darjeelings, Japanese greens, etc.

How do you prepare your tea?

Busy workday, leaves in a cup; weekends, gongfu. :)

What tea knowledge are you interested in exploring right now?

Particularly for teaware, I feel like I am always in “tuition” mode. I don’t know if I’ll ever fully break out of it, but I’ve enjoyed scratching back the surface little by little for the past several years. I’d like to continue to do so.

What factors lead you to delve into the world of tea, and what is keeping you there?

Drinking “real” Japanese tea as a student, I had a feeling I was getting a tiny glimpse into a whole universe I didn’t realize existed. That turns out to have been more true than I could have realized at the time. For all the hyperbole and commercialism (to put it lightly) I’m now aware exists in the tea world, I still find great value in continuing to explore that universe.
