So far this year I've spent about $1100 on tea. The total so far would be double had I not focused on yixing as much this year. I'll probably spend at least another $600 on puerh.

Too much  last year just on Taiwan oolongs +~1600 + some Japanese (but not as much as I’ll get this year). Some I gifted, luckily I also received gifts. The roasted variety I am good storing. Green I consume faster. I’m hoping this year to spend less, doesn’t look that way so far though.

According to Mint, I've spent about $3,300 on tea this year. About half of this came from sampling aged teas.
My goal is to finish off the year under $4k (which I think is achievable) and for 2019 to be under $2k.

Last year.... let's not talk about last year.

Seeing these totals I feel more OK about drinking gyokuro almost every day. Are these totals for what you actually drink in a year or are you building up puerh collections.

I’ll need to add up what I spent last year.

Just tea, or tea plus teawares? Just ordered a (for me) rather pricey pot....and do I count the vase for the tea table? Were the extra tea linens last year or this year? Not going to add it all up, but >$1000 and <$3000 would be a good guess!

You people are all so wealthy!
I spend around only 100 or so a year on tea... but I only drink Sencha and am mostly a solo drinker so I'm guessing that may be the reason between the "discrepancies" of what I spend vs everyone else

Question is how much tea do you get for that amount?

Still seeing those numbers makes me appreciate and be grateful to be closer to source... tea really is a luxury, at least the food stuff.

And it's been that way since the beginning too! Nothing has really changed much aside from our access to more tea and teaware over time.
Always humbling to think about how many teas/teawares I've been able to use and try since I've gotten more serious about tea(since 18 I guess but have been drinking since I was little). Had been born a few decades earlier it may have been a different story
Maybe a little over 100 is more accurate. Around the 120-130 range it seems to come out around when I factor the two times I order during the year.
Probably around 800-1000g I would say? Last year for example I ordered about 400 grams(two different farmers) along with 250 grams of a course tea(houjicha) during one order, and that lasted me a good 6 months or so. I'm usually steeping around 70-80ml(guessing) per session with about 3.5-4.00 grams... so it ends up lasting quite a while

I'd like to branch out and go back to trying different varietals and trying different oolongs, but I'm still a student so I always have to think of the budget first before I buy anything :D

Wow that seems like very small amount of tea! In Taiwan, I normally buy tea by the Jin(600g), so that will be at least 3600g per year. Plus minus, as some is bought to be aged and lasts a few years. But even on those I need to stock up year by year.

One Jin can last me maybe two months at the most.

That sounds right for my current consumption too.

I'm in the ameature leagues compared to you guys
And that's just tea exclusively just for your own use too?
Makes me feel like I should start drinking more than I do. Maybe I'll relax a little and start using larger cups now :P

Not exclusively for my own use; I share a lot of tea at work. And it's not just tea--I include a larger than usual cost for teawares, both artisan ceramic pieces and replacing failing electric kettles. And my upper-end estimate was way generous.....

I probably steep 10-18grams per day depending on tea. A relevant topic to this post, ‘How much tea do you consume per day’; viewtopic.php?f=36&t=299
