I think I like the pot more with the repaired lid than the before pictures. It’s more……interesting.
Can I ask, what is the history? I’m very new to pots and relatively new to tea. I’d love to understand better why this beauty fetches the price it does.
FS: Qing/ROC ChangJi 昌記 Zhuni
A lot of factors come into play for a price of an antique teapot like this:
First of all it’s more than a hundred years old!
Secondly, antique Zhuni is the most sought after clay - while it’s certainly not rare. Different periods of old times had different clay compositions.
Third, it’s from a popular workshop, sought after by collectors, as the craftsmanship is/can be better than from other companies.
Fourth it’s from a rather respectable antique dealer based in Singapore. That means authenticity is beyond question, which is also a factor worth paying more for. Ease of mind has its price… the world of Yixing is full of fakes. Also, Singapore is an expensive place, so for some items the prices are higher to begin with compared to other Asian countries.
@TeaTotaling is it still for sale? what's the new price?
