Beautiful collection. I feel the shape asks for a lid knob of lower wider profile - the LQER one does the job well. ;)
Thanks! I do feel that in general the old guys paid more attention to these proportion details and overall balance.

Factory mass production probably let that slide more and more…

New pot incoming :D It cost me about $1, but I had to drive 225 miles for this pot. :lol: (The seller did not want to ship it.) It's in mint condition. @Chadrinkincat has a similar pot in his collection. In my opinion, it's a genuine pot from ROC period.

Your opinion?

It looks very plausible. Do you have a picture of the interior rear?

@Chadrinkincat
@steanze

Thanks 😊 I got this small teapot, a big teapot, a brush cleaning bowl and multiple cups from an old lady for about $10. She said that her great grandmother bought them a long time ago. Unfortunately, the lid of the big teapot is a bit damaged. However, clay and craftsmanship of the big pot are not bad.

In my opinion, the papaya pot with the calligraphy (the one @OCTO said would be from the 70's or newer) is much better than this set... but it's still a great find.

Sorry for the bad lighting, it's dark outside. 🌚

A nice guy on Facebook helped me with the seal. Maybe it's interesting for you too, @Chadrinkincat. ;)

I got one that seems to be half-way polished, possibly a reject, left unfinished and then still sold elsewhere. At least that’s my theory.

Usually these carry the Gongju seal or inscription. This one is Tongzhi period.

Coincidentally, also aforementioned Dicaoqing of old.

Hey Bok
Is that patch of duanni on the lid?
It’s a Kintsugi repair I did on the lid
👍 looks very cool

A little pic I took a while back showing the amount of variation that can be found in shades of Duanni, there are a lot more from brown over yellow, grey to green, but these were the ones I had…

Lovely shades and so good for greens.

Very interesting; different firing conditions, different clay sources, or something else? Probably hard to tell so long afterwards, I guess.

I want to learn more about duanni, especially since it didn't seem to get the attention that it deserves during Factory 1 times, and since 'modern duanni' sometimes seems like a euphemism for unknown random low-fired clay.

As far as I know, Duanni strata as a natural blend, can vary in how much of each colour are in the particular ore used, so the proportion will change the overall colour appearance.

It seems to me that high or low firing has little influence on the colour. Reduction firing on the other hand can turn it dark olive green or shades of grey with sometimes orange bits coming through.

I agree it doesn’t get the attention it deserves in terms of outcome on tea.

@Andrew S & @Bok
Do you feel the ROC and F1 duanni have smaller particles in comparison to modern duanni? I have been curious if this is due to mesh size or different origin of clay.
