It is that time of the year again! Time to start seriously thinking about Shincha 2021!
Where will you be ordering from and what is on your short and long list?
Shincha is running a few weeks ahead of schedule due to a mild Winter ... that is the good news.
The bad news is that due to the mild Winter, the insider rumor is that pop cultivars like SM & YM are not stellar according to early reports.
We shall see!
Despite all the chaos in 2020, I was generally pleased with the shincha outcome. Remember, we did not even know if we would be able to get Shincha last year! At one point, it was looking very bleak!
There are still residual effects for many of us wanting to import shincha from Japan including not being able to use the very cost effective EMS.
BUT most vendors in Japan have switched over to FEDEX OR DHL.

Really looking forward to this years shincha. If Sae Midori and Yutaka Midori aren’t stellar what then? Ahhh
I see Thes du Japón has a couple already posted. O-Cha newsletter mentions;

With anticipation....This year's harvest will occur about 7 days earlier than last year due to this year's warm weather. We should be seeing the first shincha come out about the 2nd to 3rd week of April.
Thinking of trying a couple asamushi along with the usual SM this year, was eyeing the Uji Shincha Kirameki, sadly only epacket to Portugal so expecting a bit of a wait.
Last year was the first year I ordered schincha. My order ended up taking 5-6 weeks to reach me. Though the tea was good, I was expecting a more obvious difference compared to sencha I had ordered before from the same vendor, and to this day I still do not know if it is because the tea suffered or lost in freshness on its way to me, or if it simply is that the difference is not huge to begin with. Hopefully this year's crop is good enough that I do not spend another year asking myself the same question...
My order is likely to be mostly composed of asamushi, as after a couple of years of trying different vendors and products for sencha, it seems it is what resonates the most with me.

Does anyone have any leads on vendors selling temomi shincha? I know it's a crapshoot, especially with the way 2020 and this year have been. I just got a gorgeous new kyusu and it deserves some really nice tea.

I see Sazen Tea has several shincha available and is also taking pre-orders. Anyone tried their teas? A Japanese and Hungarian husband and wife team based in Kyoto.
@teaformeplease nothing yet that I know of yet.

Sipping on Uogashi Meicha’s pan friend sencha that a friend brought to me from Japan a few years ago, and I see they have several shincha available now.

Got our FedEx shincha package today from O-Cha; Light steamed Tsuyu Hikari Sencha from Shizuoka, Uji Shincha Kirameki, Sae & Yutaka Midori. I’ll wait a few days before opening a pack. Looking forward to trying.
