@mafoofan
I think he or another artist was the one, who pioneered the whole DHP thing like 10 years ago? Not sure, just I seem to have heard that name before.

Where are you buying from him? I'd be interested in seeing his ZZ and XMY stuff. :D

Steanze has a number of his pots, at least some of which are XMY. I think Xu Yuefeng was the student of a quite famed master (Jiang Youming?).

The “Da Hong Pao” clay from Huanglong zhuni ore he considers his top-grade clay. Price for a 100ml pot like the one I pictured is ~$600.
That seems a bit cheap for a master pot made of top material, doesn't it?

He is not a certified master. Then we’d be talking about a price in the thousands.

Based on what I’ve seen, $500-700 USD is the rough price range for a teapot fully handmade out of good clay by a non-ranked but experienced, well-reputed potter.

The fully handmade pots I see selling for $150-200 seem to be made by much younger craftsmen.

Is there specific reason for your skepticism?

@mafoofan
I also found the same to be true.
A reputable non ranked studio's top stuff (which is usually some kind of HLS clay) is usually going for 3000-5000 rmb.

The starting price for 原矿 full had teapots with nice clay start at 1000 rmb the lowest.

You can get "deals" on master pots, if you look out for when they are about to be promoted to next rank.

So you look out for many of the young Assistant Masters (rank 2), and see when they are about to be promoted. (I wore an article about the requirements for each 5 rank on my site). And buy pots from them before they get to rank 3.

Of course I'd only recommend you to buy from artists and pots that you truly love from an artistic stand point.

Don't be like many people in china, who are basically just gambling with teapots and ranked artists.

Thanks Youzi. I don’t care about ranking per se, but I do care about reputability, as I am dependent on the maker’s word.

From what I gather, nobody here has a specific reason to either trust or distrust Xu Yue Feng and he doesn’t seem to be a known maker in this circle. Also, no one has said the teapot or clay look wrong for what they are claimed to be.

I figure if the clay looked suspect, someone here would have said so rather than raising more general skepticisms.

In summation, I guess I will have to determine how much I trust Yinchen, the middleman . . .

If he'd claim XMY or Zhaozhuang zhuni, then I'd be more surprised. So yes, I'd say HLS zhuni is in a humanly reachable price category.
@Youzi do you specifically mean DHP or all Zhuni? I pretty sure most of yinchen’s zhuni claimed to xmy and zz, and m&l also used xmy zhuni.

Is this a F1 set? Why do they spend so much money (about $1400) for this set? I found a similar F1 teapot twice for about $200 on eBay. Is it because it's a complete set? But other F1 sets are not that expensive.

Also, I had read from various sources that HLS zhuni is the most desirable because it is then original zhuni and cannot be mined anymore. An Asian source indicated HLS zhuni is the deepest red of the three.

I mean zhuni in general. If you've seen zhuni raw ore, they basically all look very similar, so I don't expect many people to be able to tell the difference, except for Zhu Zewei maybe.

So the claims to XMY and ZZ are just like: ok, if it makes you feel better, but there's no way to prove it.

Especially because potters usually don't process the clay for themselves.

Maybe they said that, because HLS zhuni is the most "common" one? It's the least red of all zhuni and it has the smallest shrinkage of all Zhuni too.

XMY is the most naturally red kind of zhuni, and it has the highest shrinkage of all types of zhuni.

The original Zhuni is however, Zhaozhuang zhuni.

Looks to be a complete set in good condition. The era obviously effects price so maybe this one is CR or earlier. I think @OCTO has a few of these from 50-70’s

My mistake. Low on sleep.

I meant to point out that original Da Hong Pao / Da Hongni is said to be from Huang Long Shan, which is partially what makes all this so confusing to me. Master Xu's "Da Hong Pao" is, supposedly, some sort of refined zhuni from Huang Long Shan as well. Weird.

Original Da Hong Pao is a legend and basically undefined. There are like 2 historical mentions of it.

Zhu Zewei says, that the most likely candidate for what the original Da Hong Pao could be is Da Hong Ni. Which seems plausible, because it's the most red ore in its natural form, and it is found in part of HLS, which is closest to Da Shui Tan, the "original original" ancient mine of the Ming and Qing dynasty and most of Zisha's history.

Yes, modern DHP is better selected Zhuni, or in cheaper pots it's doped clay with lots of iron oxide or some cadmium if you really want it to be super red.
