Chadrinkincat of course.

It all boils down to how well one knows and trusts the person selling.

DailyTX stellar reputation for antiques, western accessible? Only Zisha Art gallery comes to mind. But no ROC hongni in perfect condition incl shipping to be found there for that price :)
@Bok
Haha I should have guessed that Zisha Art Gallery. I think my issue with them is no price listed for their antique pot, so hard to compare pricing.

At a certain level of antiquity, prices are in flux... also will depend who’s asking :)

Also what to compare it with? Designs and qualities are multiple, not one is alike to another.

The other strategy is to just put outrageous price like The Chinese Teashop does ;)

I guess you really need to build a relationship with those antique dealers in order to get a decent price. It’s like buy tea in China, you walk in to the shop, speak the same language, you get a price. You walk in to the shop with someone who has a relationship with the shop, you get another price. You walk in to the shop speak English, you get rip off like crazy :D

Unfortunately, that means buying a lot from them before haha... But back to ZAG, I have a friend who bought quite a bit from them, so I have little doubts about their integrity.

I am glad to hear they are known for their integrity. Now, just need to raise some funds, add them to my Asian travel route ;)

What can you tell me about this teapot? Is this tourist junk (again :D )? I could not find a reference online.
I bought it because of the interesting looking spout and ornaments (a lion?).
Unfortunately, it has a bad lid fit, I could not see online. The clay is not bad though.

Off topic: Is it ok to post more than 3 pictures?

That could be something. Definitely not tourist junk. Do you have pictures of the inside, inside lid and underside? With only those pictures you have, it is difficult to say more... and yes, more than three is fine, but I think there is a limit of three per post, you have to divide them.

Spout is a fix for a damage spout.

Oh, that's nice. :) I will upload 5 more pictures now. The pictures are not that good. I could take better pictures in about two weeks if this would help.

That looks quite authentic. The foo dog on the lid is very interesting and unusual with its long tail and the face looking upwards -- it looks kind of like it's been sculpted by Francis Bacon :)

Yeah, after seeing those additional pictures, it could very well be an authentic Pre-factory pot, not sure if ROC or later. But to be sure would need to see in real, could also be a replica, but somehow the fixed spout makes me think to be less likely a fake.

Interesting pot you got there, I typically see those pots with color enamel. There are quite a few of them on eBay. The creature I believe it’s call Bìxié or Xie, a somewhat common mythical creature in jade carving. The spout should be a single horned dragon head that broken and repaired. I have one that’s with enamel, and minor chip on the spout. I can post some pictures when I am back home.

Worth of note as well, that -if- it’s old, the spout cap likely contains some lead, so the pot will be unsafe to use... the clay on these kind of pots is often under fired and will sometimes perform poorly with many teas. You might think it’s hongni but it’s probably not.
