Interest check: Ippodo's Tokusen Gyokuro, Premium grade only sold at Kyoto Main Store
2019 Gyokuro will be soon sold in Japan. I’m thinking of writing to Ippodo in Kyoto to see if a few of us can get their special select grade gyokuro only sold once per year at their Kyoto store. I first wrote about it at the old forum. Anyone else interested in requesting 50g or 100g packet?
Gyokuro is picked in late April typically, after 20-30 days shading. After picking and processing, it is then rested in cool storehouses for at least 5-6 months. So early October that year’s gyokuro is available. It's also called Kuradashi Gyokuro (Storehouse Gyokuro).

Interested in 50g
Not crass, but rather very practical to ask about cost. I've had mixed experience with gyokuro, because I prefer the sweeter and floral notes in some to the umami notes in others, and without being able to sample first, I'm a little wary of spending a bundle for a very high quality tea that ends up not being to my liking. But my tastes have evolved over time, and I might love it. So...I'm interested, but would have to consider the cost too.
Not sure about price since it’s not out yet. Currently their most expensive gyokuro at 50g is 46.88$, so 100g 93.76$. I’m think similar price range. https://shop.ippodo-tea.co.jp/kyoto/sho ... okuro.htmldebunix wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 11:01 amNot crass, but rather very practical to ask about cost. thank you @Victoria for putting this together! very exciting! i hope this works out.
edit: probably closer to 1.2 usd/g
i bought some before (in person in kyoto since they normally refuse to sell that grade online) but can't remember exactly what it costs. rough estimate: ~1usd/g
