It might be fun to add some sort of facebook like/reddit upvote feature?

Yes, changing to the prosilver theme, updating the notification settings, and then reverting back to the regular theme works.
fixed

It was a very nice feature of the TeaChat interface that you could see all the new threads on the first page...
Not sure if possible but very convenient...

Check the "Quick links" menu at the top-left.

Is there a way to "ping" a user like on reddit, where you type u/their username and they get a notification, thereby requesting they contribute to the discussion?
Or is the only way to do this on our platform by quoting the person?

Seems a bit intrusive... would not want people sort of force me into contributing if I do not feel like it.

If I want a specific person’s feedback I will pm them with the link. I don’t think phpBB forum open source software has this feature.

What is the difference between "New Posts" and "Active Topics"?
If I'm checking Active Topics I also see new posts without any comments, so what makes a post "active"?

New Posts I believe are from today’s date, while Active Topics include new posts over several days. I just use Active Topics now.

this is not implemented in phpBB. the closest thing to it is quoting someone, but whether or not that generates a notification for the user you're quoting depends on that user's notification settings.

but fine, there is an extension that gives this feature. to use it, type the at sign and begin typing a username. a dropdown should appear with autocomplete results, and a bbcode will be inserted when you're done. i hope it works well.

i added it, but let me know if you think people are being obnoxious with it...
if you really don't like it, you can disable it in your notification settings.

i honestly don't know what "New Posts" does. i only use "Active Topics" to look at new content. i've tried researching it a few times, but i think i only found some pretty old discussion on it, and it seemed shaky. it might show new posts since the last time you logged in. if you're bored and get to the bottom of it, let us know.

@pedant any chance we can change @ bold red highlighted text to black? Easier on the eyes while reading :)
