I have green label neizi (zini inside) that has been in use for about three years. I like how the flavor it generates developed through the years but feels it lost some of its porosity (i.e. the rounding/muting effect) which impacts its performance with high roasted oolongs.
I guess that this question corresponds to a similar question that was discussed here by baisao and Victoria but slightly different.
I don't want to reset it. The question is whether there is a middle ground, something like a soft reset?
For example, how strong is the effect of light scrub with baking soda?

The effect of baking soda is not immediate. The pot I reset had been in use for more than three years and it took a bit of scrubbing and changing the baking soda inside a couple of times before it got clean.
You could try a gradual reset: small amounts of baking soda and scrubbing for no more than 20 seconds before washing the pot and taking a look inside. This way it'll be easier to know when to stop.
