Actually there are a few colours that are commonly used to finish without the use of gold or silver powder. Most common is red and black.

This piece is amazing.

The history of the antique, amazing craftmanship, 100% no debate zhuni and now a repair well executed to add to its history....

Whoever buys this is lucky.

I tried to do this with a porcelain teapot that has a nasty habit of slipping when holding it. Definitely not easy and I gave up!

How does the kintsugi feel when finished and cured? Is it a hard, smooth plastic feel? Firm but soft enough to indent with a fingernail?
I am imagining it would feel the same as dried/polymerized pine resin still on the tree.
Would it be brittle at all?
Is there a different in cured product between gold finished and red/black?
I figure this isn't going off topic and it never hurts to ask questions

Basically it’s like these red or black lacquered tableware from Japan! It’s the same stuff. So it’s smooth and hard, resin like as you guessed. Can not be scratched with a fingernail.

With the Gold it’s still quite same feel, maybe a bit less slippery.

One reason I’m adding a cotton wrapping is that it’s a bit tricky to handle when filled with hot water. Too slippery.

In my mind I don't like the idea of a wrapped handle, but I'm sure it will be well done and look great. It's just different to me.

@Pants404 yeah I know where you are coming from I usually do not fancy wrapping either. In this case it solves two issues: the slippery handling. Secondly I don’t think I the red of the Kintsugi matches the clay too well, so if I can cover it up a bit, it’ll look more harmonious. Historically also fitting, many examples of the past have them. Just nowadays people who spent a lot of money on these old timers usually want to see all of it

Wrapping all done. Taking it for a few test rides now to see how everything turned out

In any case my friend did an excellent job with the wrapping. Natural cotton, which I think matches nicely the pearskin Zhuni. Will stain and age along with the clay.

Inside shots and also the banged up lid. The workmanship is so fine that some details of hand-made can almost only be felt rather than seen.

To finish...

All up it looks great and whoever it ends up with will no doubt be happy.
