Thanks to everyone for the encouragements!

Going to the next step: after the bones are done and a layer of Urushi has been applied as foundation, I now started to fill in with the rougher Urushi paste, consisting of cooked rice, wood powder and some sort of fine cotton stuff. The tricky part here is to get the consistency right. They say it should feel like an earlobe.

This stage doesn’t look very pretty :) once that is dried I can cut and sand it down to shape, so that it’s fatter now than it should be is on purpose.

The drying time in humid hot Taïwan is about a week. Climate here is very beneficial for Kintsugi. Urushi cures better when hot and humid.

So last night I sanded and cut off the dried first layer of rough Urushi putty. Afterwards a later of finer putty is applied. Different kind of material is blended with the lacquer. I also added some more of the rough one as there where holes in the shape of the handle I hadn’t noticed.

As the result of all this looks very similar to the previous stage I did not take a picture... hopefully something different to look at in a weeks time or so!

Did some sanding and carving of the dried Urushi lacquer paste. Next step will be another layer of filler fine Urushi putty.

Next step, spent an hour sanding down the putty...

later on I’ll add the first layer of water proof Urushi lacquer(this one is bright red, opposed to the other which is dark brown).

It's great seeing the slow but steady progress. Every day I am eager to see the updates.
I have several repairs that I should get done myself, hopefully this proves to be motivation enough for me.

Here it is with the red lacquer for water proofing. This step also helps to identify parts where improvements are needed more easily. Kind of like a primer in car repair :)

As you can see, a few spots need further putty and/or sanding.

I've not seen teapot repairs done with lacquer like that! Most just do silver or gold but this is more humble and less show-offy which is nice :)

The gold would be added in the end! It’s always lacquer like this underneath. But in this case the last step of gold powder doesn’t make sense it would rub off!
