Interest check: Ippodo's Tokusen Gyokuro, Premium grade only sold at Kyoto Main Store
How does this gyokuro compare to other top Gyokuros like Kettl's Mare Gyokuro?
Hi, I haven’t tried Kettl’s gyokuro so can’t comment. What can you share about this group, haven’t heard of them before? Ippodo’s special select is the best I’ve had 2 years in a row. Umami rich, elegant, crazy smooth, brothy...oh wow.
Kettl does a good job sourcing very high end Japanese teas. I've met many of the farmers that they work with and they all speak quite highly of the founder.
At Leafy Green, we've used several of their teas as "benchmarks" when deciding what tea we want to carry.

I will be closing this interest check by Friday September 13th. So if anyone else is interested in trying to get this gyokuro let me know here by Friday
i found another post about this tea: viewtopic.php?p=592#p592

Thanks for doing this

Still going back and forth with Ippodo as to availability for our group.
It’s okay, I feel availability is very limited...Shine Magical wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 4:21 pmOops, it did not occur to me to share this offering with the NY Tea Society until now
Availability of 50g cans at 6,000 JPY is looking very promising
They want to ship everything directly to me (they don’t typically ship out of store in Kyoto), so a little extra in shipping charges will occur in order to then get cans to everyone’s individual location.
Will update as soon as I get 100% confirmation.

Sweet. Thanks for the update. I do not regret sharing my trip to Kyoto with my Mom--it was great to have an adventure like that together--but it did limit how many tea-related things I could do in a day. Did not get to Ippodo, or Fukujuen (seemed like Fukujuen was always closed, day or night, when I was on foot nearby, but always open when I passed on a bus with another destination in mind).
Ippodo Order is a GO
50 gram canister 6,000 JPY
Only one 50 gram canister per participant is available.
