INTRO
This group buy is for those of us who are interested in obtaining books on the subject of pu’er teas. All books are in new condition, direct from the publishing company in Taipei. They are being offered in this group buy per the publisher’s listed price (i.e. at actual cost + S&H). To sweeten the deal, the publisher has kindly offered a bulk discount up to 30% if more than 20 copies are obtained (see note below). Thus, this group buy initiative for everyone interested.

For instance, “A Glossary of Chinese Puerh Tea” (Revised 1st edition) by Chan Kam Pong (a.k.a. Cloud) was recently released on March 10, 2020. The author’s older book “First Step to Chinese Puerh” (2006) is almost impossible to obtain a new copy of in the West at a reasonable price; second-hand copies sell for $300 or more on Amazon by third-party sellers.

Wushing Books Co. Ltd has given me assurances that Mr. Chan’s “A Glossary of Chinese Puerh Tea” and “First Step to Chinese Puerh” are in stock aplenty, listed at NTD 1,600 and 1,200, respectively. Additionally, the ever-informative Pu’er Yearbooks / Catalogs are also available in bulk.
THE BOOKS & ORDER FORM
Quoted prices below are at-cost, per the publisher's price list (± $1 due to NTD – USD x-rate), before shipping & handling fees :

1. A Glossary of Chinese Puerh Tea (Revised 1st ed.), by Chan Kam Pong (in English) – $54
2. First Step to Chinese Puerh (2006), by Chan Kam Pong (in English) – $40
3. 1998 - 2003 Pu'er Yearbook Catalog [2012 revised ed.] (in Chinese) – $60
4. 2004 Pu'er Yearbook Catalog (in Chinese) – $60
5. 2005 Pu'er Yearbook Catalog (in Chinese) – $54
6. 2006 Pu'er Yearbook Catalog (in Chinese) – $60
7. 2007 Pu'er Yearbook Catalog (in Chinese) – $54

To K.I.S., please download and return the completed order form (MS Excel file) by email to: aharto@gmail.com on or before Sunday, March 22, 2020.

Time remaining:

Thank you!
Note on 30% bulk discount: a follow up inquiry is being made to get clarification on whether the bulk discount applies to Mr. Chan’s newly-released “Glossary” book only, or per title, or towards the total quantity of combined orders, regardless of title. Stay tuned.

Excellent initiative.

I just got the yearbooks for a friend, bare in mind the shipping for these will be substantial, they are very very heavy if you buy the while lot!

Thanks @Bok!

Re: shipping cost being substantial, YES and NO :D

Yes, each book is heavy: CKP's new book "Glossary" is 980g (225 pages, hardcover). The "First Step" book is 895g (272 pages, paperback). The Yearbooks are as heavy or more. This affects the cost of shipping via airmail, true. However, the 30% bulk discount is greater than the variable shipping cost by weight via airmail.

I've done the math, and this is when and how every group buy participant helps the others who participate: the benefit we all get from economies of scale (i.e. the 30% bulk discount) outweighs the [variable] shipping cost. That same benefit is not available if one were to buy the book(s) individually.

Hi @pantry Hope the link and explanation above helps answer your question.

Weight is only one factor, it jumps quite a bit if the box exceeds certain dimensions.

edit:

true, but these aren't XL art books or anything. @phyllsheng's assessment here should be accurate.

Hi everyone,

Update on the 30% Bulk Discount

I have received direct confirmation from the publisher on how the 30% bulk discount works: it's applied on per title basis if obtained > 20 units.

As of the moment of writing this update, 1 book has met the threshold for the 30% off: the newly-released "A Glossary of Chinese Puerh Tea" (Revised 1st ed., in English) by Chan Kam Pong (currently at 24 units).

The "First Step to Chinese Puerh" is 7 units away from qualifying for the 30% bulk discount (currently at 13 units).

The "1998-2003 Yearbook" is 15 units away.

The rest of the Yearbooks (2004 through 2007) are further away with only 2 - 3 units of received orders per title.
The pu'er books group buy will be finalized/closed at 11:59pm on Sunday, 3/22 PDT (Los Angeles time).

Thank you!
