yatrateacompany.com wrote: Castleton is one of the true icons among Darjeeling tea estates. Planted in 1885 by Dr. Charles Graham, this estate is home to mostly China bushes that grow at heights of up to 6,000 ft.

Originally named “Kumseri”, the estate was renamed Castleton after a building that resembled a castle in Kurseong that still stands intact today. This structure allegedly belonged to a money lender who gave it its grand look.

Tea sections in the estate are identified by various names, rather than numbers, a marked departure from the norm.

The second of our Castleton offerings from our First Flush sourcing, this oolong is a rare Darjeeling produce.

APPEARANCE, AROMA, AND TASTE
  • Oolong tea: Amber liquor, biscuit honey aroma, and a mild, soothing taste on the palate.
  • White tea: Clear, pale yellow liquor, with a fruity aroma, and a light texture with no astringency.
This is an opportunity to compare two offerings from the famed Castleton estate (50g total).

Good morning, teas have been mailed! I hope you enjoy them in good health. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about either tea. Per my own experience, both these teas fare better with a higher leaf to water ratio and longer steep times than other Darjeeling teas.

If brewing Western style, I'd recommend 3 gms per 6 oz of water steeped for 3-5 mins. But of course, that's just my taste profile :)

Thank you for the tips! I'll definitely try a couple different ways. :)
