Coming up is something you won’t see often… at least not often as an antique
A Julunzhu, wagon wheel style teapot with the heart sutra engraved on it.
This is to the best of my knowledge from the late Qing/ROC period. Did my due diligence confirming the dating with a few people who know more than me, but please do your own before committing.
This versions with heart sutra are popular and sought after.
Although one of my favourite teapot shapes, I do not care for engravings on my teapots, I prefer the simpler ones without – which means I am considering offers for it. No pressure here, if no one has the budget for it, it'll stay in my collection, after all they don't make them anymore.
________
Clay: This is an interesting one, there seems to be a rare method used to achieve the dark colour, called Wuhui(ash cover). Basically a second firing, while covering the pot with ash to achieve a uniform darker colour. At least that is how I understood it. The result is a dark grey, which has a hint of green to it.
Volume: 100ml
Other remarks:
Tear and wear as appropriate for an antique. I did clean it superficially, some patina still remains.
One flat chip at the inside rim of the lid.
Also what looks like a tiny piece of clay carved out from the inscription stuck to the outside. >> see pictures
There was a metal made filter in the pot from the previous owner, for the single hole spout. Looks to me as if it is still useable, a bit loose though. Included.
________
I won’t put this one up for a fixed price, if you are interested please make a (serious only please ) offer via PM...
FS: Late Qing/ROC Julunzhu
On one of the picture you can see marked what I mentioned as a small piece of clay on the outside, as well as the small chip.
