For sale is this very nice Yamada Jozan teapot in a classic shape. I can not be 100% sure which Yamada Jozan it is, but my own investigations, discussions on the forum and visual marks point to either Jozan I or II. More likely Jozan II.
The style is from when the Tokoname potters where still copying Chinese teapots, before developing their own distinctive style, so an interesting link between these two pottery hot spots.
The workmanship is perfect as often with Japanese pottery and the Yamadas are of course famous for it.
Hojo claims the older red Tokoname clay is different to the one used at present, with different properties. I do not know enough about Tokoname to confirm or refute, just for the sake of the anecdote. It is however not in any way similar to Zhuni as he claims.
It is in perfect condition and has been cleaned.
