@Victoria @Baisao thanks for all your contributions, I am learning a lot by getting this kyusu! Just for that it has already been worth to spend the money!

So I’d need to see a higher resolution image of text on rice paper you shared. From what I can see it includes Emu after, Jozan I, II, III on the left after basic historical information about the kiln. This means that the kyusu was made at the kiln sometime between 1973-2006. After 2006 Emu changes his name to Jozan IV. So it was most likely made while Jozan III was still leading the kiln. The two Jozan III kyusu I have are signed with calligraphy both inside and outside the box ( tomobako ) lid. I’m not expert at reading calligraphy.

Yamada Emu = 山田絵夢
1954 b
1973-2006 Emu, making ceramics while Jozan III was alive
2006- present Jozan IV, after Jozan III passes away

Here are two other kyusu attributed to Jozan Kiln rather than Jozan III himself. Using 常山窯 (Jozan kiln) chop. Notice the bulbous lid knob, and sack at base of spout. This is a characteristic I have noticed with a few Jozan Kiln attributed pieces.

Does Asako Isobe say that this chop by itself means it is the work of the people he mentored?
Yes, she has confirmed this several times to me. Before selling a Jozan kyusu I did research to confirm whether it was Jozan III or not. She shared this stamp 常山窯 (Jozan kiln) indicates it is the work of a disciple and not Jozan III himself.

...and it’s gone!

This thread can now be archived.

To the @admin : would it be worth putting parts of this thread into a new one? I think there is some good information for future references in here.

Maybe merge it with the Jozan seal thread I started a while ago?

Yes I agree, it would be a shame to loose these information.

Well, it would not be lost in any case, just more hidden and difficult to find...

Last little update, the news paper on the bottom of the wooden box was from 1972! So that gives a clue of the approximate age and might exclude Emu, supposing the little rice paper has been added afterwards
