Puerh Tasting LA Club 01-27-2018
Last Saturday we had a marathon puerh tasting at my place from 5pm-2am
with a ramen break in between. We started earlier than usual thinking we would finish earlier as well, junkies that we are we just kept going. I think everyone really enjoyed the ‘taste’ of 2006 Dayi Bada Peacock Series - Bada Mountain from FinePuerh that Atlas shared with us. My stomach was a bit funky from so many young sheng though.

Jinggu White (sourced in Yunnan by Yang-chu) Yang-chu shared.
Thick, slick, penetrating sugercane sweetness that really lingers. A sweet delight.
2007 Shan, Sheng, Yunnan ( T-Shop, NYC) Victoria shared.
Gentle, silky, smooth, fruity, medium full body, full mouth feel. "Mouthmatic" -Victoria commented after a few steeps.

2017 WMD Mansa Ancient Tree Raw Puerh (Bitterleaf Teas) Atlas shared.
Smooth and thick, sweet, floral, balanced, long lasting. Some experienced strong body effects, cha qi, and stomach discomfort.

2002 YiWu Ancient Spirit, Sheng ( Puerh Brooklyn ) Victoria shared.
Pencil shaving, slight fruit, cardamom, camphor aroma. Lots of "aged" taste, but still subtle and light. Banna wetter stored.

2009 Bulang Raw Puerh (T- Shop, NYC) Victoria shared.
Soft, sweet, inoffensive? Revisited this sheng a few days later with more leaf; it is full bodied, smooth, fruity with a little bit of toasted sugar notes.

Spicy, good balance of sweetness and bitterness, mineral, long finish, goes for ages. Everyone really enjoyed the flavors on this one.

2017 ‘Storm Breaker’ Shou / Ripe Puerh, Menghai ( Crimson Lotus Tea ) Atlas shared.
Malty biscuity sweetness with earthy backbone, thick. Later longer steeps got oddly muddy.

2017 Lumberslut, Shou ( White2Tea ) Atlas shared.
Normally thick and rich, Atlas brewed this moderately, bringing out a balanced earthy/woody brew.

1996 CNNP Dayi 7542 HK-Traditional Storage, Raw Puerh ( Origin Tea -closed ) Victoria shared.
Our last tea of the night was a surprise, as Victoria revealed her collection of samples and had this small treasure on her hands. Damp storage aroma and flavor was offset by the bold dayi raw materials to make a surprisingly balanced wet stored tea. This will benefit from further airing out to dissipate damp storage notes.
