@Ethan Kurland quite a story with such an upbeat unfolding of events. Good samaritans do exist and, if we are open, life really can present us with unplanned pleasures. Rigid expectations have a way of getting in the way of experiencing the unexpected. I’m so glad you were open to and able to spend some time soaking in Pu’erh Brooklyn. Grippo the owner is quite a guy, an Argentine designer and architect, who curates very special exhibitions and tastings in his stunning space. When I visited unfortunately I had a time constraint, but after reading your story I will make sure to take time to hang out for a sit down tasting there. During my visit Grippo was very generous offering me several teas to try upstairs before making my purchase, he also just had a very special Andrzej Bero, Petr Novak, Mirra Randova exhibition. In the end I purchased a few of his selections for a pu’erh tasting we had here in Los Angeles, along with a few from T Shop as well.

An Oriental Beauty with no fruity spicy notes, but rather an aged roasted profile, sounds like a selection made from a pu’erh tasting point of view, which is his specialty. When I’m in NY I just assume prices will be marked up given very high cost of being there. I hope next time you are in NYC you can visit Té Company, Elena is from Taiwan and she carries excellent Taiwan teas, including very high quality fruity spicy O.B.

Victoria, Your photographs capture the feel & look of that place perfectly. The sitting area is often rearranged, I was told. When we were there, in it were two very small tables & 2 medium tables & lots of flat cushions. Some Sunday nights tea ceremonies are held there, we were also told. I thought of choosing Te but my younger sister had never enjoyed Pu. When I have offered her some, it was rather poor drinking. (I had so much trouble with Pu that I stopped buying it and decided it would be my "teahouse" tea. I have some that is supposedly 1985 etc. but won't open it until I am strong enough for disappointment.) Also, I should note, a regular table & regular chairs can be brought down, if customers want; or, they can use them upstairs. I did mention it costs a bit, but you are right that it is a high-rent neighborhood.

Cheers
Noonie

Couldn’t agree more about time well spent at Puerh Brooklyn. I’m back in NYC (started this thread a year ago!) and decided I wanted to try some Sheng. Really, really enjoyed it (the tea, ambience and the friendly staff).

Had a great time at Floating Mountain! Elina (?) was such a great host. We talked for an hour + about tea and lots of other topics. “Leafing” through the books was a nice treat too. I had a Sheng brewed in a Chaozhou pot (I think) that was superb.

Next was T Shop. Very quaint and really good Sheng as well. It was a 2005 and I felt like it could have went for 20 steps (but I had limited time). I wanted to visit a few other shops but I had enough tea and figured I could save for next visit.
