I was having this black Alishan Taiwanese tea 2022 from a french Taiwan vendor and since the first sip I have a cat in my throat, that is the only way I can express it in french. I keep clearing my throat. I've had black Lishans from TTC and hojo and never encountered this before. Bad tea or just bad me?

Yes. Sounds like pesticides.

Could it not just be the roast or the tannins? These factors do seem to give a drying sensation on the mouth and throat.

Can be, but it wouldn't be as extreme in my view, unless the poster is especially sensitive? Hongcha is often harvested in summer > lots of insects > so pesticides would make perfect sense. High mountain is harsh environment as well.

I can handle heavy roasted fine. I think it was pesticides...It subsided eventually but it took some time. I've never had that kind of feelinng that pronounced before.
One thing I'm glad is that I did a small small order of the teas from this vendor. Not ordering again. Today I had his one of his lishan, not impressed at all.

I guess I have a good idea which vendor this is… that happens when rookies think that selling tea is easy.

Why would it be a good sign

I usually react with headaches if the tea is not clean but scratchy throat was new to me. You’re right, why would that be a good sign.
