"...The raw material of U303 products is also exported to the USSR. Packed in wooden tea boxes. Loose tea of the third grade with tea number 5310 is about 25 kg per box. The receiving units in the Soviet Union were all tea packing and packaging plants (such as Moscow Tea Packing and Packaging Plant, Ryazan Tea Packing and Packaging Plant, etc.), which were packed and processed for sale..."

"...Comrade Wang Jixiang recalled that in the 1980s, trade between the Soviet Union and the East was mainly carried out in the form of barter, with tea being exported in exchange for engineering products. From 1986 to 1988, there were two types of first-generation taxis. The Polo in Kunming came from the Warsaw company FSO, and the Soviet Lada cars were purchased in exchange for Yunnan black tea exported by the company..."

Thus, it can be assumed that this box of tea was imported from China to the USSR (Poland) in 1986-1988.

"..Due to the transformation of foreign trade enterprises in the early part of this century, as well as the influence of export trade barriers and other factors, the glorious moment of Yunnan black tea exports has been lost in history..."

"...What was the taste and texture of the exported U303 that made foreigners so addicted to it? It is the responsibility and mission of our generation of people to capture the trace of time and reproduce the classics of that time. After careful blending by the R&D team and numerous tasting experiments, Dianhong U303 Chinese tea is presented for the first time.."

It only remains to add that the Chinese have tried to "restore" the old brand and have already launched sales - on Taobao there are similar modern packs from the Zhong Cha company, although 80 grams each.

"...It restores the classic taste of U303 to the maximum extent, while improving the taste. It is U303 full of historical memories, and it is U303 that brings together the taste of the new era. The tea soup is orange-red, translucent, smooth in the mouth, rich and soft in taste, with a unique aroma. It is neither rushed nor slow, but after three to five brews, it becomes fresh and fragrant. natural taste.

To experience the export glory of Dianhong, let's start with Dianhong U303 Chinese tea!.."

Those who liked this story can order a new U303, and I, in turn, am pleased that I managed to buy a pack of 36-year-old Dianhong for my sandwiches (joke).

A report on the tasting of Soviet lao Dianhong will be later.. )

There is only the designation "U303". What kind of tea could this be?
Most likely the same as the U302 which Chawangshop used to sell. Finely broken leaf that steeps very fast.

Excellent specimen! And it has Russian markings - it was exported to the USSR or already to the Russian Federation after 1991.

Are there any photos from the sides and ends? Perhaps they contain additional information that will allow us to date this packaging more accurately?

Another pack of tea bags that I got. Unlike the tin, this pack didn't retain any of the jasmine scent.

@Velych thank you for re-explaining your point! I wish I had your luck finding these teas. I regularly come across CNNP tin cans in Finland but they are always empty. At most there is some tea dust in the bottom.

The first half of the 1990s was a difficult time for export businesses, and production volumes also plummeted. It would be interesting to see some statistics for tea but I don't know where to look. In many cases it took until 1996 before privatisation and restructuring were complete.

Thank you for your kind words, tea brother! I hope you come across a sealed pack/tin, and more than one)

In Russia we have online flea markets, where ordinary people often sell things left over from old relatives. You can often find tea or old tea utensils there. For example, I am interested in porcelain teapots or bowls from the early Soviet era in mint condition (1920-1930s)

I’ll show you another tea that my tea drinking buddy got and who kindly decided to share it between our tea company.

Everyone tried it and rated it highly (4 out of 5). So you can drink it with great pleasure.
