Yes agree, never boil, only lightly simmer with a protective trivot and cloth inside large pan to prevent rattling from damaging teaware. Also, older thinner teaware should be handled with extra caution and pre-soaked to rehydrate before cleaning or using 🍃.

The first few times I deep cleaned teaware, I put the items in cool water, slowly heated up the water to avoid rattling, added percarbonate, and allowed the pot to simmer while carefully avoiding boiling. This takes a lot of time, patience and attention, more than I have of each.

I have simplified the method quite a bit now :
  • Bring water to a boil without the teaware in it
  • Turn off the heat and wait for bubbles to stop forming
  • Preheat the items well, then put them in the hot water with tongs
  • Add cleaning agent if desired (percarbonate, not soap of course)
  • Wait a while
  • Rinse and repeat (literally) with water only
