With a 70% chance of failing in the kiln, jihong qinghua is one of the most difficult color combinations to achieve on porcelain. Learn about the history of jihong red glaze, and why it's so difficult to fire, in this week's blog:

Seems like that tight 5 degree firing temp range would be incredibly difficult even with a modern thermometer. How long would it need to achieve and remain at that that temp with the tight tolerances?

They maintain the temperature within that range for around 30 minutes. The total firing time is around 12-13 hours.
