Interesting tv drama about Tea in Taiwan

Just started to watch this last night: Gold Leaf (https://www.netflix.com/tw-en/title/81516613)

A pretty well made period drama following the events of a tea merchant. It uses Taiwanese, Hakka, Japanese, Mandarin and English, so a little background knowledge is probably needed to fully appreciate all the details of post-war Taiwan society it depicts, but still very watchable!

It also uses quite a few historic locations all over Taiwan, eg the Daxi Tea factory(now reopened as a museum) and others. They even found some better quality foreign actors to play the parts of certain characters (as opposed to another recent period drama from Taiwan, Seqalu) which has a good story and setting but where a main part is played by a terrible actor/model actually).

The teas in question should be from the North Taiwan (Oriental beauty, Baozhong, Greens etc.), the setting of the Tea company is in Hsinchu.

Anyways, very rare to see something mainly focused on tea – enjoy!

Thanks for the tip, looks interesting. It seems to released for Taiwan only, had hoped either Hong Kong or Singapore would have access but nope. Maybe they'll broaden the availability after a while.

HK will never release it I’m afraid. The new “security laws” will not allow it. Content is not fitting their narrative.

Looks interesting. NordVPN has a Taiwanese server connection available - I'll see if I can get it to come up.

What's the name of the show out of interest? The Netflix link doesn't work for me (even with TW VPN). I found "Tea Love" (闪亮茗天 from 2015) but I suspect that's not it :D

No, I wasn't able to get it work. Netflix has gotten too skilled at preventing region block circumvention, it seems. I did find some cool Taiwanese horror stuff I'm probably going to watch, though.

Yeah, I also found a site that has it. Lots of pop-ups, though, and my anti-virus software doesn't like it.
