Teapot Fully Handmade of natural mineral Yixing clay
In Ji Yun Lu’s new series “Bamboo and Pine”, the artist uses clay to express Bamboo and Pine shapes, creating truly unique works that transcend the medium. Clay and its cultural associations are at the core of “Bamboo and Pine”, and as Ji Yun Lu explores the meaning of Bamboo and Pine and clay, he plays with the material and shape, and works with it in different ways. The slow and meticulous process of making is contrasted by the slowness and meticulousness of the process when the clay becomes bamboo permanently: when Ji Yun Lu feeds the teapot work “Bamboo and Pine” into the kiln and leaves it still, the flames permeate the air. In the end, bamboo, clay, and flames form the theme of this work.
