Daxue Jiadao 大学夹道
I just got a nice package from Daxue Jiadao today. Along with some tea, including more of the jammy 2021 Zijuan Hong that I wrote about a while ago and a 2015 smoked lapsang, I also got some teaware, including a 150 ml 1990s Dehua pot and a 100 ml Buchangqi cup. I wanted to mention how carefully these pieces were packed. The padded boxes held the teaware snugly enough that it wouldn't move, even with the clumsy handling that parcels are sometimes subjected to. This vendor has excellent products and excellent customer service!

Was a while ago but had a package get lost from this vendor, although they offered a refund or to resend. From memory the resend also got lost and they ultimately refunded.
Exceptional service, and the teas are some of the best I've had anywhere. Really love their Zhengyan trad roasts.

I'm curious to know hows the teas from this vendor. No experience whatsoever, and im looking more at the hongcha and white tea. Not looking at the yancha and shengpu tbh as I have my own trusted source for those.GaoShan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 7:49 pmI just got a nice package from Daxue Jiadao today. I haven't tried their white tea yet, but all the hongcha I've had from this vendor has been top notch. I thought their Zijuan Hong was excellent, though I see it's sold out. Their more affordable 2021 lapsangs are also good and also sold out. These lapsangs are more elegant and subtle than fruity and it will be interesting to see how they compare to Hojo's. I also enjoyed their Qizhong Songzhen Huangye, which I remember being fruity and floral with no bitterness. I'm not sure what their plans are for restocking more recent harvests of black tea.Sunyata wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:59 amI'm curious to know hows the teas from this vendor. Yea I was actually looking at their Qihong, followed by ZSXZ. But since their wuyi hongcha is sold out, I guess there's no point in simply ordering one or two teas. Was the purple wild varietal weird? I don't think those are in my radar because of bad experience with yesheng types. Then again, their hongcha prices are rather high and is hard to justify spending that amount on hongcha.GaoShan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 7:09 amI haven't tried their white tea yet, but all the hongcha I've had from this vendor has been top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2020 version of their LinCang GuShu DanZhu a few days ago, and I also liked their TongMuGuan Da ChiGan and Xiao ChiGan a while ago. They felt 'pure', clean, elegant, which is what I enjoy in hongcha (as well as in other teas).Sunyata wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:33 amYea I was actually looking at their Qihong, followed by ZSXZ. I don't have experience with their white teas, because I think they were sold out or not yet available at the time of my last order. And I have tried their XiaoZhong teas, but I really have no experience of that style and hence can't really comment on them usefully. I have not yet been disappointed by any of their teas, notwithstanding the prices, but I have only tried a few areas; my focus has been on yancha and liubao, plus a bit of hongcha and some sample packs to broaden my education.
(their liubao teas have been excellent for me, and their 'heritage' LaoCong TieLuoHan and QueShe were excellent as well, but I appreciate that that's not an answer to your question...)
In terms of updates, I haven't heard from them since around August last year - my impression is that they are a small operation, and that they re-stock previous teas, and add some new ones, rather intermittently. It might be worthwhile subscribing to their emails if you wish. Their emphasis appears to be to focus on quality and small offerings (hence the prices) and to have both a few standard items (eg, the full roast and traditional yancha, and hopefully the hongcha and other broad categories into the future), plus introducing a new sample pack every now and then (which seems to lead to at least some of those sample teas becoming available thereafter - eg, the green teas and the YongChun wulong, from memory). it might be best to wait until the next time that they re-stock and update their range.
If the strangely cool, wet, windy weather down here continues into tomorrow, I might try some other hongcha of theirs and report back...

Having tried almost all the reds, i like the qihong the best and the yixing the least.
The cheaper lapsangs are okay - i would go for the laocong.
Having had quite a few yunnan reds, id say theirs are okay. The dan cong one is pretty good
Compared to hojo - i would say they are better than hojo across the board.

Their purple tea had very little of the pine/canabis funk that I've found in other yesheng hongcha, and it was also not as tannic/bitter. I'd say it was a more elegant rendition of this tea type. It also had lots of jammy berries, which is what drew me to this tea more than to the lapsangs. The Zijuan Hong and the Da Chi Gan and Xiao Chi Gan are about $0.50/g, which I think is fair. Their Qimens and higher-end lapsangs are about $1/g. I don't know how their Qimen compares to Hojo's high grade Qimen, which I remember being even more expensive.Sunyata wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:33 amYea I was actually looking at their Qihong, followed by ZSXZ. Given their limited selection, you might want to hold off on purchasing hongcha until they restock. Last year they were opening a storefront in Beijing, so they're probably busy. I'm on their mailing list but haven't heard from them lately either. I hope they're okay.
