I agree, the clay is its main plus, the artisan skill could do with some improvement... certainly not a master potter, yet.

Right, agree with you. So you use yours for high mountain mostly? That’s what I’m going to try next.

Regarding drippy lid, I’ll just try and not filled too the brim, and pour slowly at an incline. Also, I’ll just go with the flow .

I use it with anything greenish. But mostly high mountain yes!

In an ideal world, Hokujo would use this clay to make a 80ml teapot )))

I have a 1st gen, and it also dribbles very easily in addition to tea collecting around the lid. I've found if I shake the drops off the spout in a motion towards my cup while the pot is at about a 45 degree angle (spout facing down) and slowly tilt the pot towards being level while still shaking, the drops will stop and the pot won't dribble... although somehow the underside of the tip of the spout is always wet with tea no matter what I do.

I don't know if this will work on the current gen, but it may be worth a try. The resulting tea from the clay is worth the trouble

@nasalfrog nice that you’ve found a work around to your pots dribbles. In @Chip’s 12 Days of Kyusu @Jo does mention first gen dribble at the spout. Mine doesn’t do that, it only leaks at the lid rim near the spout. I’ll eventually figure out a system to avoid or live with this . I like the clay a lot and am glad I have this kyusu in my repertoire.

Thank you for the link, Victoria. I may have chosen a more recent gen if I had read that beforehand, so it's a good resource for people interested in this kyusu.

Small world indeed. Maybe we can ask Junzo to make a few smaller kyusu. Actually I’d like a 130ml shiboridashi. I could ask him directly if enough of us are interested

The big question is what kind of arrangement he has with Hojo... as it seems to me that the Kobiwako clay is only available for the pieces sold via Hojo. Artistic Nippon and others only seem to get his other clays.

I wouldn't mind an even smaller Kyusu in the 90-100ml region

Yes, since Akira sourced the clay for Junzo to use it would have to go through him. I’ll ask him if getting smaller kyusu is a possibility, then if I get a positive reply, I’ll see how many TF members are interested.

No dribble pots though. In the case of my kyusu the lid needs a larger shelf for it to rest on. Although, looking at my other kyusu some have a similar sized shelf so the issue might be a combination of things, including a horizontal design with large opening.

Also, I haven’t compared Junzo’s Kobiwako clay to Masaki Tachi‘s Shigaraki clay yet. I’ll try and do that this week.

Anything in the 90-130 ml range would be great, 100-120 ml would be perfect for me.
