For those who wonder, the forum in question is this one: https://discussion.chinese-antique-porcelain.com
The Porcelain Thread
Side note: that above mentioned forum is for profit, so the scope of answers are limited and they won’t go into too many details, so don’t bother asking too many questions apart from if an item is authentic or from what period... they have a payable section where they go into details.
My first gut feeling was Middle Eastern, but I don’t really have a good evidence why
You were right about this one. That's the reply I got in the forum: "This would be a bowl for the common folks. Late Ming dynasty, with a Fu 福 character inside."
Nice. What about the first one?
If they don’t reply, it usually means that it’s an obvious fake, modern piece, or Not Chinese/Japanese at all. It’s one of that forums, admittedly not very friendly, rules they stipulate in their imprint.
@Bok
He moved the first one to the Japanese section, because he thought there would be a blue ring beside the foot rim. I told him that there is no blue ring, and that it looks like that because of the lighting. Now, I am waiting for a second reply. Hopefully, he is not pissed.

Haha, but it still looks more Japanese than Chinese for sure either way...Mark-S wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 6:43 amBok

Hey all. I am wondering if anybody can tell me if my little pot is Japanese or Chinese. Thanks!

@Bok
Yeah, that's what he said too.
"The decoration is Japanese in style, and the foot rim seems to be straight up and rounded...still looking Japanese even without blue rings. Let's wait for someone else to confirm."
If it would be from the West or Middle East it would be a disappointment, but Japanese... I think I can live with that. Hopefully, someone can tell me the approximate age.
The plate similar to the one EoT sells got this remark: "About mid-18th century, judging by rim shape and mark."

This one is new and still in the mail. I am curious what their opinion on this plate is. The bottom looks different and a bit too clean on the photos...

That’s what I thought. Glad to have it confirmed. I love it even though the lid fit is not great.

This pattern is similar to 18th-19th century Chinese stuff.
I based my assumption on first plate being Japanese, based on the fact that the plate blank itself looked East Asian, but was unsure of the design, although Japanese designs often have geometric patterns as well, and the underglaze pigments themselves looked to be East Asian. Japanese is always a good default when you get something that has some Chinese characteristics but somewhat of a head scratcher in terms of pattern haha.
The second plate being Ming isn't surprising and was my first thought, it looked pretty old, but I just haven't seen enough Ming stuff to get a real sense for it.
Yeah, it looks similar to this one I posted some weeks ago: viewtopic.php?p=22210#p22210
The seller claimed that the new plate was made after 1940 and the base looks too clean to me, but maybe it's just the photo. I hope that this is no copy. The design is nice.
You’re right it looks a bit too clean... maybe the firing after 40s got better though, so not much firing defects anymore.Mark-S wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 6:25 pmYeah, it looks similar to this one I posted some weeks ago: viewtopic.php?p=22210#p22210
