Other than the plasticy smell, were the HF cases you bought made pretty well? I've been wanting to get a pelican case or 2 (for non-tea related storage), but have a hard time justifying (or stomaching) the price.

overall they seem fine and are useful for putting together rugged kits of things that are more fragile than valuable.
however, if your equipment is more valuable than pelican cases or you need the best protection, go pelican.

I’m wondering what is the best way to transport some basic teaware:

- 100ml Gaiwan
- 120ml Cup
- 25g bags of sample tea (Pu and Yancha)

I have bubble wrap, and was going to cut to fit. It’s the case I’m most interested in solving, and I’m fine if it’s a tight fit (teaware only). I was thinking of a travel toiletries bag with zipper (don’t currently have one). Any other ideas?

Initially it’s just to a friends cottage. No flights. There is a kettle and spring water on hand. I have a travel kettle for trips where needed, and would pack that separately.

I keep it simple: I just use bubble wrap, rubber bands and the cardboard box the teapot came in or a similar light and small size box. Zip lock bags to organize teas. Place everything in my carry-on so I don’t have to be concerned with temperature variables and TSA going through my teas.

Mylar-lined paper bags can be a hassle in your carry on....especially if they have spent some time near the place where you eat chocolate. Cheese and chocolate both apparently share some chemical signatures with explosives.... I like to leave my tea in my checked luggage.

In a decade + flying with serious teas I’ve never had an issue with them inside my carry-on. But I don’t carry any food items like cheese or chocolate. Also, the most I’ve ever taken is +-1.5lbs. of assorted small pouches, most with mylar inside. @debunix did they confiscate your teas ? international, or national travel? Total bummer if that happened, never thought of it.

It just delayed me and I nearly missed a plane because they had to open the packages and swab the outsides for the explosives detector.

I have bought existing travel box kit and reconfigured a bit. Put gaiwan with pitcher and glass cups instead. That cheap clay not worth to use it.

That’s a sharp looking kit!

I got a similar solution as @aet, a pre-made travel kit, originally with a glass easy brew gaiwan too ugly to use.

Kept the cups and just squeezed my travel teapot in! Works a treat.

I ended up getting a round Rubbermaid container with a twist lid, lined it with bubble wrap and it’s a nice firm fit. Cut a few smaller pieces of bubble wrap to fit between the Gaiwan, cup and lid. Pretty easy. The Gaiwan fits into the cup nicely

i know you requested a DIY kit, but here's another option.

i do something like shine magical above, but i would eventually like a travel kit that fits together neatly in one case and takes up less space (everything stacking together well)
