tea spoon vs scale?
hello,
i have plenty of tea where measurement per cup is most of the time written as 1 tea spoon per cup. For such a tea is it a good idea to have spoon as

example tea>
thanks

When you get further into loose leaf teas, everything is measured by the gram.
I'd just get a 0.1g pocket scale instead.
This is the scale I like using: AWS Series Digital Pocket Weight Scale 1kg x 0.1g, (Black), AWS-1KG-BLK by JBTools
Any container that will easily pour out the leaves can be used. If you don’t preheat your teapot you can measure dry leaf directly inside the teapot. I preheat mine so I like use a Yuzamashi (water cooler) that is my avatar. I also use a fine brush to get all the small fragments into the teapot. I think in an earlier post you were looking for a kyusu and cups, if you search on eBay under antiques/Asian/Japan/teapot you will find sets that include kyusu, 5 cups, and yuzamashi with the original box. Here is a discussion regarding those kyusu sets.
That is a clever way to go @LeoFox. Some people like using a tea scoop that also makes it easy to get dry leaf into the teapot. This one is from Tea Trekker.
@phier i moved this topic to the teaware area. i think some of your other posts were moved or merged as deemed appropriate by other mods for organizational reasons. sorry for the confusion. just in case you're wondering where they are, either click Activity at the top of the page to see active discussions, or click here to see all your posts.
due to different leaf shapes and sizes, different teas have different densities. a scoop of one tea won't weigh the same as another, and that can result in unexpected flavor and strength differences.
i've seen a couple of really nice photos that people have prepared that beautifully demonstrate this, but i can't find any right now.
if anyone has one, please share.

I think @debunix posted an image showing different teas by gram weight somewhere. Here is an example showing 3 grams of six different teas;pedant wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 3:19 pmdue to different leaf shapes and sizes, different teas have different densities. a scoop of one tea won't weigh the same as another, and that can result in unexpected flavor and strength differences.

Right that’s the same reason I use mine to measure dry leaf mostly. Traditionally, before the introduction of scales and variable temperature control kettles, the yuzamashi was used to cool off boil water, between kyusu and cups.
