I use rattan saucers like these from Seven Cups.

I got mine from there too long with a set of ebony tea utensils. I had noticed that I had some water spots on the bottom of my yixing teapot. You can only do so much with a tea towel :D

I’ll do the hot water test tomorrow. A little hot water didn’t have a negative effect but I don’t mind giving one of the rattan saucers a good soak.
I gave one of the saucers a through soaking in water, not tea. If I hold it right up to my nose and take a very eep breath I detect a slight odor of rattan. It’s not unpleasant to me. In normal usage I don’t detect any odor.

@Janice

Thanks, that's very helpful. When my loofah pads start to look bad I'll buy me some rattan pads. The loofah pads are nice, but maybe the rattan pads are even better.

Out of curiosity, for how much are they sold? I think it must be a good business to sell these, they literally cost nothing as they are basically the waste of an edible vegetable :)
Some tea shop in HK is selling 3 pads for $40 USD. I can buy a pack of 20, though without stitching, for $7 USD.

I would like to get a couple in 7cm and 10cm, stitched, but haven’t found a good source.

Does anyone know a good source?

Well, I recently read about gourd loofahs, and I can say that such things can be purchased on Amazon at the same time for a good price

I found some that were thick and sewn at https://180andup.com/

I like the stain they get over time but refresh them with some sodium percarbonate.

These are certainly pricier than growing your own but I like the thickness of them and that they are sewn.

Ones I’ve purchased from Amazon were irregular and needed trimming that resulted in thin pads. Cheers!
