Also, someone please tell me the image size restriction is larger than on teachat! That was such a hassle.
Yes post about chagama here as well. Image posting is easy, you can host your images at Imgur, google photos etc and link or attach here. Here is a guide;

Thanks Debunix,

I realize now I've been terribly inactive. The new Firefox quantum update really did a number on me, some of my favorite addons were not supported and thus removed, including my speed dials, i lost nearly 100 links i used to visit daily and still haven't heard from the developer soo.. really this has set me back like a month at least. Now i'm almost back to where i was as far as browsing:, and I'm back. Still just 1 chagama though :)

Now that your browsing is speedier, easier to find the next one?

I bought this from Japanese antique store in SF awhile back. It's around 1L and supposedly from Meiji period though I have no idea if that's true. Its been a huge improvement over the kamjove I was using. I still consider it one of the best tea purchase I've made.

You can get a nice new from Hojo...

Or with a little patience you can find some great used testsubin in various stages of upkeep on Japanese Auction site:

Figured I'd use this thread instead of opening a new one.
I'm in need of an advice because the worst thing since my gaiwan broke has happened: my tetsubin developed a bit of rust both on the inside and outside. I really don't know how, since I haven't used it in a while and I made sure it was completely dry after the last session.
I tried scrubbing it off with a towel but it just keeps on spreading. Are there any products or methods I could use to remove it all?
I'm attaching a couple of pictures so you can see the damage. Apologies for low quality, they're from my phone.

Hi, Welcome to TeaForum. Nice to have a member from northern Italy. Where are you there?

For rust inside your tetsubin, I recommend slow simmering cheap or crappy tea leaves for 30 minutes or so. I have read it is the tannins found in tea leaves that will remove rust (iron oxides/orange rust) and produce a blackened (ferric tannate) seal over the area. Turn off heat source, and let the tea sit inside for a few hours, as tetsubin cools reheat briefly to keep tea warm, at end reheat for +-10 minutes, discard tea leaves and liquid. Rinse with filtered water a few times, then boil with clean water a few times. Test water to see if it is clear in a cup. If the water still tastes rusty, repeat process as needed.

For the outside of the tetsubin, you can heat up the tetsubin, and apply cooked tea using a brush, muslin cloth or tea bags. Do this as many times as needed to remove rust and coat with a blackened seal.

When you are finished using the tetsubin, always make sure to remove all liquid from the pot while it is still hot, this will allow the remaining liquid to steam off, drying the pot completely.

I agree with Victoria. Boiling tea should do the trick of reducing the active red rust (Fe2O3) to a black rust (magnetite Fe3O4). I think ginger or onions can do that too. I believe that a bit of rust is completely normal, and probably unavoidable. It is usually advised not to do anything more to clean it (unless it is really rusty).
