Skill in handling an instrument of choice certainly plays more of a role than the tool itself.

This applies to so many things people get worked up about when making tea.

I use a Japanese clay kettle and it can pour fast or slow as needed. It’s not as precise as a thin gooseneck kettle but it is precise enough. The character of the water from this kettle trumps speed and laser guided precision anyway, so I’d probably adapt and use it even if it poured slowly and not so well.

I'm buying the Bonavita BV07002US Interurban 1L shortly but I did consider the Stagg EKG. The reason I chose this one is because many people I know have used the previous models of the Bonavita for many years with only minor issues. I'll be using this only for myself and a guest(possibly). The oolong won't brew itself and staring into the pot looking for "fish eyed" bubbles can be like looking for bigfooot

Have you looked into the old (but still available) old model? At this time it is less than half the price of the newer model (on Amazon at least).

The new model seems to be listed at 1000W, like the old one, so although I have not tested them, I would assume they are similar. The 1.7l is 1500W, and still much less expensive than the newer models, though obviously more bulky.

There are models quicker to boil water than the Bonavita on the market, for sure, it depends if the price difference is worth it to you. We are talking a minute or two quicker here, so depending on your case it may be of value to you or not.

Sweeeet. I've been looking for a new electric kettle. My last one started to leak. It was mostly plastic, but lasted a good long time. Sounded like a jet taking off though. Been looking at kettles on Amazon not wanting to make a plunge because all of them have bad reviews. However, I saw this post and it's like well, I ordered the Bonavita. The older model. I don't care how long it takes to heat water.

If one is in a hurry for hot water, I suggest not filling his kettle more than halfway.

Or starting with really hot water. I have a hot water dispenser which doesn't quite reach boiling. Sometimes I start with that hot water and it takes just minutes to get the pot to boiling.

So far I really like the kettle. It's a little smaller than I thought it would be, but heats quickly from my perspective and is relatively quite.

That risk is low if you source your teas directly in Asia

I would love to be out of stock. I would feel that what I select is appreciated more than I feel that now. I imagine that would be a nice feeling, although not as nice a feeling as knowing there is a lot of tea in my cupboard & refrigerator to keep me warm & amused through Boston's awful winters. I would never sell so much that I would not have enough for myself.

I got mine this afternoon and pulled out a lot of samples to try. I had been brewing western style but I bought a nice easy gaiwan and some cups so I'll see what the fuss is about . I love that little kettle, it is very low maintenance doesn't take up much space.

@klepto, you went with the Bonavita BV07002US? I'm considering a Bonavita at some point. My electric kettle works fine, but it's over ten years old. It does what it has to do, but it would be nice to have the temperature hold feature. I have to boul water in between infusions, which isn't all that bad. It would be nice to have the water hot and ready to go for the next infusion though.
