Have you looked into the old (but still available) old model? At this time it is less than half the price of the newer model (on Amazon at least).

Of course, maybe the nicer base is worth the difference to you, just pointing this out in case you did not see it.
I considered this one. Big price difference. It's half the price of the BV07002US model. I would have to compare the two to see if it's woth paying more money for the newer model.

temp hold is huge, so that I can get through 4-6 infusions of my morning sencha while catching up on the news, packing my lunch, and still getting out the door in time to start the outside day.

klepto, you went with the Bonavita BV07002US? I'm considering a Bonavita at some point. My electric kettle works fine, but it's over ten years old. It does what it has to do, but it would be nice to have the temperature hold feature. I have to boul water in between infusions, which isn't all that bad. It would be nice to have the water hot and ready to go for the next infusion though.
Yes I went with the Interurban as a late christmas gift to myself, the manufacturer says that the rust issue is fixed and being able to keep your water at the same temps for an hour is too good to pass up.

FYI... at least on the older model there's what I would call a safety feature and I"m glad it's there. The kettle will maintain temp ~2degrees but once you pick up the kettle, you have to press the button to hold the temperature again. Otherwise it just sits there and cools down. Sort of annoyed me at first until I realized it was there for people like me that would forget to turn it off at the end of the day.

That's good to know, and it's a nice little safety feature.

Yes, it's a great feature, and probably the best reason for me to consider buying one at some point.

I certainly understand. That's definitely an attractive feature. Enjoy it, and good luck with it.

The only bad thing about having an electric kettle at work now is I won't be drinking plain water as much. I have a thermal carafe that I used to fill up with boiling water from the hot water tap at work. Wasn't perfect, hence the electric kettle, but it worked. When I had water from the previous day left over in the morning, I'd pour that water into a tall cup I had and drink it throughout the day... now I just pour the cold water into the kettle and heat it.

Happy to report that the base of Bonavita 1.7 liter kettle is interchangeable with 1 liter variable temp Stagg. This is conviene to for tastings when different waters can be stored in each, but same base used. The 1.7 doesn’t fit though on Stagg base, the bottom of kettle is too big and hits the on/off/temp knob.

Edit: water boils over with Stagg on Bonavita base, so needs to be removed as soon as it boils.

I found my Bonavita and Gourmia tops and bases were interchangeable, handy when one of them developed a fault.

I have a question regarding the durability of Stagg EKG kettles.

I saw they are available in the EU now and I am considering getting one for my birthday. I prefer its looks over Bonavita (which is the second gooseneck kettle available here) and the difference in price is not that big (both are expensive). Its smaller size over Bonavita is also not a big problem as I drink tea mainly by myself. But before I pull the trigger and pay what they are asking for I would like to know how it is holding up for people who own it for some time. Thnx.

This kettle isGREAT! I have been using for my own use and at tea festivals for a couple of years now. It is available online from Amazon or directly from the manufacturer. I see you are in China, do you not have access to these sites? I'll help if I can; PM and we can discuss.
