I considered this one. Big price difference. It's half the price of the BV07002US model. Electric Kettles

FYI... at least on the older model there's what I would call a safety feature and I"m glad it's there. The kettle will maintain temp ~2degrees but once you pick up the kettle, you have to press the button to hold the temperature again. Otherwise it just sits there and cools down. Yes, it's a great feature, and probably the best reason for me to consider buying one at some point.

The only bad thing about having an electric kettle at work now is I won't be drinking plain water as much. I have a thermal carafe that I used to fill up with boiling water from the hot water tap at work. Wasn't perfect, hence the electric kettle, but it worked. When I had water from the previous day left over in the morning, I'd pour that water into a tall cup I had and drink it throughout the day... now I just pour the cold water into the kettle and heat it.
Happy to report that the base of Bonavita 1.7 liter kettle is interchangeable with 1 liter variable temp Stagg. This is conviene to for tastings when different waters can be stored in each, but same base used. The 1.7 doesn’t fit though on Stagg base, the bottom of kettle is too big and hits the on/off/temp knob.
Edit: water boils over with Stagg on Bonavita base, so needs to be removed as soon as it boils.

I have a question regarding the durability of Stagg EKG kettles.
I saw they are available in the EU now and I am considering getting one for my birthday. I prefer its looks over Bonavita (which is the second gooseneck kettle available here) and the difference in price is not that big (both are expensive). Its smaller size over Bonavita is also not a big problem as I drink tea mainly by myself. But before I pull the trigger and pay what they are asking for I would like to know how it is holding up for people who own it for some time. Thnx.
