That's a pity. What's the size and shape of yours?

It is 120ml. The flange that supports the lid is surprisingly wide, and the actual opening is much smaller than one would expect. I have come to understand that in the case of Tozo's teapots, its not as bad a thing as it sounds : if the teapot is not filled to the brim, it increases the angle you can tilt the teapot before the lid leaks. It is especially useful given the pour is slow, as it takes a bit of time for the level of water to drop enough inside the teapot (more time for leaking from the lid).

thanks all for the pour info - sounds like I shouldn't have to worry so much since I'm not a sencha drinker. hopefully I can get a hold of a rear handle relatively close to the size I'm looking for in the non-reduction fired clay. sounds a little redundant to start with that clay if one already has other semi-muting pots.

I heard oxidation fired akitsu mumyoi brews a fine sheng!

One thing to note is that hojo keeps changing the clays in terms of composition and firing. He emailed me that earlier oxidation nosaka are extremely muting which has been confirmed by one other TF member.

He claims the current generation is not muting and makes tea very loud..both the good and the flaws.

He also claims that the reduction nosaka is closest to porcelain.

One thing is for sure about hojo: the teapots are not made for looks but to optimize some effects on tea that he has in mind. In general, it seems he likes after taste more than body.

A nice A. Mumyoi 350ml (-20% ml ;) and a 100ml (-20% ml ;) --> Both Kyusu's: oxidation = with the current A. Mumyoi) are available as a rear handle Kyusu.

@faj Very nice color :) !!! Do you have a ball strainer or a multiple hole strainer?

@LeoFox Yeap, I had the same feeling: he was more for the aftertaste; but since a while he likes - my guess - the harmony between tase & body. He is after perfection, balance and harmony; I would say.

It looks great, and as has been the case for all my teapots, better in person than on pictures. It has a direct hole filter. Does Tozo use both types?

As far as I can remember (I'm 95% sure), he also uses (used?) the ball strainer. That's why I was pleasantly surprised to have a perforated one.
Your pic is just great - but I know, in person the pot looks always even better. Same with mine :)

Ahh, if only I had listened to @OCTO some time ago but also I wouldn't have the experience to appreciate it today.
Ok, I understand now.
Got my first mumyoi, Tozo Akitsu Oxidation Back Handle Teapot. Got some Hojo Tongmu Shui Xian and brewed it up Asap.
From the first steep the yan yun hit, and I got crazy mineral deposit on both sides of my jaw. The pot allowed me to appreciate all the nuances of the yancha
while not taking any minerals away from it. When I brew tea sometimes I can taste this or that but with this I can appreciate the layers of flavors almost separately, yet together..
Ahh.. the mysteries of tea.. Joaka pot next month but I'm not sure what type just yet..

Here's muh pot:

Further Thoughts on Akitsu Oxidation:

I'm up in the middle of the night brewing yancha and hong cha, this pot makes great tea with either.
After some sleep and some thoughts I will equate the body of tea and the aftertaste like an equalizer.
I like a V shaped sound, bass boosted a bit with mids in the middle and treble up slightly.
When I've used my Kohokujo pot which I love sometimes its hard to know where the body begins and the aftertaste ends
because both are enhanced. This pot enhances the body more so when the aftertaste comes I say 'ah' there it is, also I
taste more flavors and nuances in the body that I normally would.

I'm not aware of any negative effects as of yet but I haven't brewed a lot of tea in it so far. :geek: :ugeek:

After sitting in customs for 20 days I was finally able to pick up this treat today- 120ml in Nosaka rough clay. I don't know how quickly I should expect the clay to start seasoning so I'll give it a quick go today and see if maybe it needs to be on pitcher duty for a couple weeks first. My plan was to use this specifically for higher end raw liu bao, but we'll see how it behaves. Its made so nicely I could see wanting to use it as my main pot just as its a real pleasure to look at and handle and not restrict it to too much. As keen as I am to also try out Kobiwako clay I can see the pull of trying the other clays and reduction firing being pretty strong too...

@klepto what size it yours? I really like the shape of it. its hard to tell in the photos what is just accented proportions or if that thing is as much spout as it is pot. Looks like it could be 140ml or 40ml.

Ooof, customs for 20 days.. :( mine is 130ml. I like the shape and texture of your pot too. I think that's gong to be my next hojo pot I've heard that since it takes away some body it makes the tea more transparent and boosts the aftertaste.
