@ferg welcome back to the fold :) … looking forward to seeing your new acquisition. Think of you every time I handle the kyusu, yunomi, and yuzamashi you kindly shared with me. They have inspired an expanding Tokoname collection 🍃

@Victoria Hey Victoria! Long, long time. Glad to be welcomed back to the tea community.

Wow, I love all of the pictures! 😲 Goes without saying, it’s nice to see you’ve kept them, after all this time.

Those Taisuke pieces were definitely homed in the right place. Very rewarding to see his works find their way to be next to teacher. Amazing to see Konishi’s influence in his student’s future works.

Yes, excited to share this kyusu. I feel like he’s being held captive at Customs. Hoping they let him go within the next day or two.

Welcome back, @ferg! It is really neat to see Konishi's influence expressed through Taisuke's aesthetics. Cheers!

@Baisao Thanks! It’s good to be back. :)

However, my reentrance may have been a bit ill timed. As of this morning, the EMS shipping tracker reads: Item returned from import Customs. Well, that doesn’t sound very good. :?

This could take awhile..

Oh no! Well, best of luck. If it is coming from Japan then I am certain they will figure it out.

@Baisao
Fortunately, Florent just got back to me this morning his time with the following:
That just mean custom process is finished and the the parcel goes back to postal services.

Wow, I feel like a noob.

Package just arrived, with tea!

@Baisao I can’t recall honestly, do you stick Japanese teas in fridge immediately or let them settle a bit at room temp?

Any advice is appreciated.

hey, wb, @ferg

put the tracking number into USPS and monitor it there. once it gets into the US, you will probably get better visibility into it that way than on EMS' site.

imo no harm in sticking unopened packs of tea directly in the fridge without waiting.

@pedant Hey again! It’s good to be back. :D

Thanks for the quick reply!

Ok, in that case, I’ll go ahead and stick sencha and kamairicha in fridge now.

Would you treat genmaicha or bancha any differently?

Safely in fridge! Thank you very much @pedant.

And yes, I now have more tea than any other food item in there. What can I say? I live the bachelor lifestyle, living from one meal to the next.

Just wanted to chime in. I'd keep those at room temp. In fact I had some open for over a year - just clipped in living room- with no detrimental change. If anything, it got better

I agree with @pedant. There’s no harm done in putting them immediately into the fridge.

And though you didn’t ask, I have never found that teas need to rest after shipping because of something undefined that happens to them in shipping. I think the differences people detect are psychological or associated with changes that happen when a tea breathes for a few weeks.

Thanks to each of you who jumped in today to share your advice on tea storage. This was such a nice reminder of why I enjoy being a part of this community. The fact that I can get a question out and receive information practically in real-time is truly invaluable.

Tending to my cat Jerry who had dental surgery today, and four teeth pulled. Suffice to say, he’s in rough shape at the moment, so spending time together. The kyusu post will have to wait another day or two. I kinda hyped it, so appreciate your patience.

Hope I’m not breaking rules with another somewhat unrelated post, but I believe cats and kyusu go together, at least in Japan, right?!
