I just bought this teapot online tonight, so these aren't my pics. Apologies for the low resolution and lack of a decent chop photo.

I really don't know much about contemporary Yixing, but this was quite cheap, and I've never seen one like it. It's supposed to measure a bit over 5" wide and 4.5" tall. Assuming it IS real Yixing, the craftsmanship and detail on the tree branch handle and spout looks fantastic. I love the little squirrel hanging out by the handle, and the lid knob is nifty too. Normally this would not be my style at all, but it was fun and funky enough that I thought it was worth the small cost to roll the dice and see it in person. I've seen countless thousands of junk Yixing listed on eBay, but this one didn't feel like those mass-produced crap pots. I figure at the very least it will make a cool display piece if it's not usable. So, any thoughts on this? Trash or treasure?

Funky indeed! Can't help but seeing something NSFW hanging out
Dirty little squirrel pot!
Workmanship seems ok though.

Oh? You have better eyes than I. Does the squirrel have his "acorns" out? That makes it even better!

I think he's referring to the *ahem* "spout". Although in that case your teapot should probably see a doctor.

That's a pretty nice sculpting on this pot. Might be a treasure in the end.

Thanks, I'm definitely becoming rather attached, regardless of the market value.

Update: The mystery has been solved! This is a repro of a pot by famous Yixing artist Chen Guoliang. Nice craftsmanship, but not in the same league as the master. :P

I think I actually prefer the fake version. The squirrel is a nice addition.

I'm not sure the pot in the link I shared is genuine, either. Just that it confirms the artist and pot that it's trying to mimic. :D
