A good friend of mine just found this pot in his grandparents basement or something. Was given to them as a gift about 15y ago....he was concerned about quality and safety and asked me to post...
What do you think?
Looks safe? How is the clay?
To me it looks pretty modern but i don’t really know - would be happy for any input/advice
A find in the basement?

Generally if you have to ask about safety of a yixing than you've already answered the question about quality.
I can identify slip casts and very bad fakes, as well as pots that have a potential to be F1/F2 etc. But that is also mostly true about certain shapes. Not about everything.Chadrinkincat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:15 amGenerally if you have to ask about safety of a yixing than you've already answered the question about quality.
I think that I can also have a rough idea whether a clay is really bad, but I will have a lot of false positives. This one looks ok to me, but you or someone with a lot of experience might recognize here something that will look suspicious that I will not....

Clay looks ok but it's hard to be certain with those pictures. Overall craftsmanship of pot/carvingShuShu wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:22 amI can identify slip casts and very bad fakes, as well as pots that have a potential to be F1/F2 etc. But that is also mostly true about certain shapes. are mediocre and modern. It's prob safe to use if it doesn't smell weird or make hot water nasty.
